Season 6 Winners Gallery
Below you will find all the winners of the Season 6 card design competitions.
Prepare for Tribal, Make it Double
There are two types of people in this world. Err, well actually there's quite a bit more than two, but we're going to focus specifically on getting two of them together.
- You must make a card that synergizes with dual-type minions.
- This can be in the form of something like "Do something with [minion type A] or [minion type B]" or "Do something with a minion that has two minion types".
- Your card must synergize with exactly two minion types. No more, no less.
This competition ran from January 9, 2023 until January 16, 2023.
Keyword Katastrophe
Bold flavors. Fortune favors the bold. To boldly go where no one has gone before. Do you see what we're gettin' at?
- You must create a card that contains only keywords in its text box.
- You can use periods and commas, of course, but no other words!
This competition ran from January 16, 2023 until January 23, 2023.
Mini-Set Madness
The sets may be miniature in size, but there's an enormous past for them to cover.
- You must make a card for a theoretical mini-set of an old expansion that has not received one.
- Work under the assumption that the mini-set comes out next Hearthstone Year (rather than back then).
- That means you can use mechanics that did not exist at the time (Rush, spell schools, etc.).
- Work under the assumption that the mini-set comes out next Hearthstone Year (rather than back then).
This competition ran from January 23, 2023 until January 30, 2023.
Lost In The Shuffle
Time to get up and do the shuffle!
- You must design a card with the word 'shuffle' in its text.
This competition ran from January 30, 2023 until February 6, 2023.
A Hero's Tale
No more of these side-characters hogging the screen: it's time for the main players to take the stage!
- You must design a Legendary minion for one of the main Hearthstone avatar characters - Jaina, Thrall, Rexxar, etc.
- Arthas already has one in The Lich King, so he will not count for this competition.
This competition ran from February 6, 2023 until February 13, 2023.
Hail Hydra
The Year of the Hydra came with some cool mechanics. What would happen if we put them together?
- You must make a card that utilizes at least two of the follow mechanics on the same card:
- Colossal
- Dredge
- Naga Synergy
- "Sunken" Cards
- Infuse
- Locations
- "Suspicious" Cards
- Reborn
- Undead Synergy
- Manathirst
- It is also important to note that merely just being a Naga or Undead does not count as synergy for the purposes of the competition.
This competition ran from February 13, 2023 until February 20, 2023.
Naxx Out?
Some felt a bit disappointed that Return to Naxxramas didn't have that much representation from actual Naxxramas in it. Let's do something about that.
- You must make a card out of the mobs, bosses, or locations from Naxxramas.
- Whether that's taking something that's currently unrepresented in constructed Hearthstone or simply giving one of the bosses a better card for the modern-day environment, is entirely up to you.
This competition ran from February 20, 2023 until February 27, 2023.
Eighth Wonder of the World
We're setting our sights on some locations - ones that many would say are quite...legendary.
- You must make a Legendary location card.
This competition ran from February 27, 2023 until March 6, 2023.
Death Was Merely A Set Back
Death Knight was only added into the game a few months ago, in a game that has 9 years of history under its belt. It has a lot of catching up to do.
- Design a Death Knight card for an expansion before March of the Lich King.
- The card should fit the set mechanically. No Rush before The Witchwood, or spell school effects before Forged in the Barrens, etc.
- Exception: You are allowed to use Reborn in any set from Saviors of Uldum onwards, but you are not allowed to use it for any set before then.
- You are still allowed to utilize various attributes exclusive to the class (such as Corpses or Runes) regardless of what set it is in.
- Be mindful of rarity adjudications in the old adventures: they never had any class Epics or Legendaries.
- The card should fit the set mechanically. No Rush before The Witchwood, or spell school effects before Forged in the Barrens, etc.
This competition ran from March 6, 2023 until March 13, 2023.
Words of Power
People say that "words hurt", and this week is where we use our words to hurt our opponent.
- Design a new keyword and three (3) cards that use that keyword. Your submission must include those three cards and a description of what that keyword is. A fourth card slot is open for submissions and you can use this to place your keyword tooltip in your submission.
- Your cards must specifically use the mechanic to count. In other words, cards that merely interact with the mechanic (like Crowd Favorite or Journey Below) will not count unless they also use the mechanic itself (like Stonehill Defender).
- You will need a HearthCards account to make a keyword tooltip. If you don't want to make an account, you will be allowed to write what your keyword does in the description box of your submission.
This competition ran from March 13, 2023 until March 20, 2023.
Dies To Removal
Everyone dies eventually; some sooner than others.
- You must design a spell that can damage, destroy, or disappear a minion or minions.
- Transform does not count: the intent is to remove the minion(s) from the board completely.
This competition ran from March 20, 2023 until March 27, 2023.
There's No Heal Like Overheal
I'm holding out for a healer! Get me a medic, on the double!
- You must design a Priest card that utilizes Overheal.
- The card can have Overheal or interact with the mechanic; either is acceptable.
This competition ran from March 27, 2023 until April 3, 2023.
Hard Core
The game is switching up its cards this year and all the classes feel it to the core.
- Create a card for the 2023 Core Set. That's it.
- Do remember to use the Year of the Wolf watermark on your cards. Your card will be disqualified if it's not placed in the right set.
This competition ran from April 3, 2023 until April 10, 2023.
Numerical Value
It's time to mix it up! Swap in them beats and change the flow. [Insert additional music reference here]
- You must design a card that can swap the numbers around on itself.
- You can switch Attack and Health, Attack and Cost, numbers in the text; whichever works, so long as something is causing them to be mixed up.
- Examples include: "Harmonic/Dissonant" cards like Harmonic Disco, "Worgen" cards like Swift Messenger, etc.
This competition ran from April 10, 2023 until April 17, 2023.
Top Secret: The Fourced Sequel
We're keeping some more Secrets, but this time they're not held by the heroes.
- Make a card that makes a secret choice using the "Secretly" word.
- Our most prominent examples of this are Blademaster Okani, Jandice Barov, and the new Rhythm and Roots.
This competition ran from April 17, 2023 until April 24, 2023.
The Grand Almost-Finale
We're about to reach a climactic end, so it's time to make some noise!
- Make a card that uses the Finale keyword.
- Whether this is using the mechanic itself or interacting with it in other ways is up to you.
This competition ran from April 24, 2023 until May 1, 2023.
Bold Moves
This week, our cards are getting bold and brash. But they don't belong in the trash.
- Make a card that conditionally gains a keyword (or multiple).
- Note that giving a keyword is not the same as gaining it. Cards that give keywords to other cards will not count (unless said card also happens to gain a keyword as well).
This competition ran from May 1, 2023 until May 8, 2023.
Stop! Doomhammer Time!
This week we're honoring a mighty weapon of Warcraft lore. Hit 'em hard, then hit 'em again!
- You must make a "package" of three (3) Shaman cards that work together to form the start of a "Doomhammer archetype" in a theoretical expansion.
- At least one of them must reference Doomhammer by name in the text, in a supportive/synergistic way.
- The others can have general weapon-synergy traits, but should still encourage the use of Doomhammer.
- At least one of them must reference Doomhammer by name in the text, in a supportive/synergistic way.
This competition ran from May 8, 2023 until May 15, 2023.
Prismatic Parlance
This week, we're giving the term "colorful language" a new meaning.
- You must make a class card with a keyword that the class doesn't normally use. For the purposes of establishing defined boundaries, as long as the class has less than 5 collectible cards that utilize that keyword, it will count.
- Keywords that are exclusive to certain expansions or years (like Inspire or Echo) will not count as uncommon keywords for the class regardless of how few cards in that class use it.
- Using class-exclusive keywords (like Combo or Outcast) on cards in other classes will also not count.
This competition ran from May 15, 2023 until May 22, 2023.
Stacked Against You
You're at the final challenge and the deck isn't stacked in your favor. Can you salvage a way to win the fight?
- You must make a card with a deckbuilding restriction. You're free to choose whatever restriction you want as long as it's explicit and requires some level of thoughtful deckbuilding.
- In other words, cards that technically have deckbuilding restrictions to use properly, but don't say so on the card (like Mogu Cultist or Elwynn Boar) or otherwise don't prevent its normal functionality will not count. While certain cards like Gather Your Party or Clumsy Courier discourage you from using cheap minions or spells in your deck, they don't necessarily prevent you from using them and in any deck (assuming it has at least one minion or one spell in it), it will still maintain its normal functionality.
- While there are no clearly defined designations for what counts as 'thoughtful deckbuilding', simply using common sense will make this a non-issue. You wouldn't call Town Crier a card with a 'deckbuilding restriction' because your deck needs a Rush minion to tutor.
This competition ran from May 22, 2023 until May 29, 2023.
