Things To Do In WoW This Week – Winds of Wisdom XP Buff, Great Gnomeregan Run

Welcome to first ‘full’ week of October. We are now in full pre… pre-patch mode, with the Dragonflight pre-patch expected to drop at the end of the month. Until then, we’ve still got a few weeks of content to go and time to spend doing odd jobs in-game, so let’s see what this week (Oct. 5 – 11) has in store for us!

Dates in this article are for the European server’s timeline.

Winds of Wisdom XP Buff

The Winds of Wisdom buff returns, granting all character levels 10-59 a bonus 50% XP for all activities. This buff will be active until the pre-patch drops and the Dracthyr become available to create for those who pre-purchased Dragonflight.

If you’re really looking to minmax your leveling process, make sure to grab the 10% increased XP buff from Darkmoon Faire before the event ends on Saturday!

If you don’t have much time, parking your characters next to daily pet battle quests is a time-efficient solution to make use of the buff.

This Week’s Major Events

There’s a few things to look out for this week:

  • The Great Gnomeregan Run takes place Saturday. If you want to feel like the world is alive again, make sure not to miss it!
  • The Shadowlands Dungeon Event is live, where end bosses of Shadowlands dungeons drop an additional piece loot. With Dragonflight so close to launch (Nov. 28), we’re not sure it’s worth investing in grinding gear that’ll become redundant so quickly.
  • Brewfest ends tomorrow! Make sure to use up your tokens before they’re automatically removed from your inventory and give Coren’s mounts one more shot!
  • Darkmoon Faire ends Saturday, so if you’re looking to get some easy profession points, make sure to visit the island before it disappears for another month.
  • The Fated raid for this week is Sanctum of Domination.

Additionally, the new Maw Assault for this first half of the week is the Venthyr Assault. This should be followed by the Night Fae Assault on Saturday evening. This week’s major N’zoth Assault is in the Vale of Eternal Blossoms.

Alternate Activities

It’s the end of the expansion, we get it – maybe you want to do something other than the numerous and poorly designed Shadowlands grinds. The best time to make use of the Winds of Wisdom buff is two weeks from now during Cataclysm Timewalking, so what is there left to do this week?

We’ve come up with a few suggestions on non-Shadowlands content to engage with:

  • The Legion World Boss for this week is Humongris. Skinners may want to defeat him to get ‘Skinning Technique: Legion Butchery’ which allows them to gather extra meat when skinning in the Broken Isles.
  • Complete the aforementioned N’zoth Assault. The two end-patch BFA reputations are a long grind. We suggest you grind them on your Scribe character, as there’s a couple recipes locked behind Revered reputation.
  • Remember the Proving Grounds? Now is the best time to try for its achievements, with end-of-expansion gear equipped. The easiest place to access the Proving Grounds is by speaking to the ‘main’ NPC near your Garrison Mission Table.

Our Challenge To You

If you’ve already done all of the above and are looking for something a bit more grindy, but still achievable within a week, here’s our proposal:

Catch the four Tiny Carps from Pandaria’s fishing pools.

The four carps are distinguished by their color: Blue, Green, Red and White. They can be caught as follows:

  • Tiny Blue Carp – fished in the open waters of the Vale of Eternal Blossoms.
  • Tiny Green Carp – fished in The Jade Forest, Valley of the Four Winds and Krasarang Wilds, from both open water and schools of fish.
  • Tiny Red Carp – fished in Townlong Steppes and Dread Wastes. The best location seems to be the lake near Niuzao Temple, Townlong Steppes which has a pet battle master NPC.
  • Tiny White Carp – Fished in ocean water around Pandaria, or schools of fish that are in ocean water (at the edges of the continent).

Bronze Tier: Get two of the carps.
Silver Tier: Get three of the carps.
Gold Tier: Get all four carps, including the most elusive of them all, the Tiny White Carp!

If you’re up to the challenge, let us know the results! What are you up to in WoW this week? What goals do you have in mind between now and Dragonflight’s launch? Let us know in the comments below.
