Things to Do in WoW This Week – Cataclysm Timewalking, Hallow’s End, Looming Pre-patch

Welcome to week 3 of October for World of Warcraft, now confirmed to be the final week of pure Shadowlands. That’s right folks, the pre-patch is dropping with next week’s reset, so after we go over the events that are happening this week, we’ll break down some of the major changes coming with the new patch.

Dates in this article are for the European server’s timeline.

This Week’s Major Events

  • Hallow’s End is live! Queue for the Headless Horseman encounter for a whopping 1/1000 chance at his mount. Visit inns around the globe to be tricked or treated and collect Tricky Treats from Undercity and Stormwind dailies. Exchange them for pets and toys!
  • Cataclysm Timewalking is live! Go get a couple toys and a stack of previously unobtainable recipes with your painfully-earned Timewarped Badges.
  • Sepulcher of the First Ones is the Fated raid for this week. Starting next week, all Shadowlands raids will be Fated by default.
  • The PvP Brawl for this week is Shado-Pan Showdown.
  • The Night Fae are currently assaulting the Maw, followed by the Venthyr halfway through the week.

Combined with the Winds of Wisdom buff, this week is the best time in Shadowlands to level. Characters eligible for Cataclysm Timewalking will get a boatload of XP from queuing for the ol’ dungeons. Make the most of it by getting all your alts to 60!

Next Week’s Patch

Next week marks the first major step towards Dragonflight’s launch. While the Dracthyr are not going to be playable yet (as we previously theorized), they will be coming on November 16 in Europe.

Our focus, however, is on the week ahead. Season 4 ends on the reset, and things start to get both good and weird. You can check the full patch notes here, and we’ve summed up the more interesting parts below:

  • New talent system! We’re getting a mix of both old & new in terms of talents: You’ve still got choices choices to make, but there’s also a lot more flexibility with the type of build you can make. Builds will be in the awkward spot between expansions until Dragonflight launches though.
  • HUD changes. WoW is transitioning into the 2020s with a grid-based customizable HUD. Get ready for your addons to freak out. I’d suggest turning stuff like Bartender off and seeing how the new HUD works out.
  • All races will now be able to become Rogues, Mages and Priests.
  • Rated Solo Shuffle is being implemented, although with the season ending, we’re not sure what that means in terms of, well, rating and everything associated with it.
  • You can now change talents for free anywhere except in Mythic+, PvP instances and during combat.
  • There’s new meta achievements for collectors for 500 mounts as well as for 1250, 1500, 1750 and 2000 pets.
  • Up to 5 players from any faction can now tag a monster. This does not apply to War Mode.
  • Resurrection Sickness now lasts for only a single minute! However, resurrecting at a Spirit Healer now hits your items with a 50% durability loss.
  • Night Fae members will be able to buy a toy from Lady Munn in Heart of the Forest that allows them to Soulshape anywhere (without the abilities, those only work in the Shadowlands).
  • Pet Battle stones can now be applied directly from the Pet Battle menu.

As you can see, there’s quite a bit going on this week and next week’s going to be ever more filled! Stay tuned for more information on next week’s massive changes!
