Clarification on the Wild Event Cards
Quote From Blizz_Kauza
Quick clarification! The cards that are rotating back to standard for a limited time are going to be granted as free event cards, which means they're basically new, temporary versions of the cards. Even if you already own the cards, you'll still get these event copies.
When the event ends the event copies will go away.

While we’re constantly recruiting lackeys, tinkering with experimental tech, and delving into dusty tombs to bring you new Hearthstone expansions and Adventures, we’re also hard at work on some awesome, albeit less flashy, new stuff. In this blog we’ll shine a light on some of the smaller, but still exciting new features, events, and changes coming to Hearthstone in the near future.
Adding More Events
After the overwhelmingly positive response to the recent Fire Fest-E.V.I.L. event, we’re looking for more opportunities to introduce even more large-scale in-game events with rewards, themed Tavern Brawls, and changes that could temporarily (or permanently!) create fun new Hearthstone experiences for players.
We’re starting off with a new event in just a couple weeks featuring Dungeon Run-inspired Tavern Brawls, dual-class Arenas, Legendary quest rewards, and some meta-shifting changes outlined in the “Shaking up Standard Play” section below.
We’ll have more to share on this sensationally spooky event on October 4, but in the meantime . . . try not to lose your head!
Shaking up Standard Play
Now that the Saviors of Uldum Standard ladder experience has solidified, we think it’s a great time to throw a wrench or two (or twenty-three) in the gears. We’re going to be pulling some of the most popular and game-changing cards from across Hearthstone history, including Ragnaros the Firelord and N'Zoth, the Corruptor, out of Wild and dropping them back into Standard for a limited time. To ensure that everyone can participate in this meta-mixing event, we’ll be granting everyone free copies of each card (these copies cannot be disenchanted or crafted) so they can add these heavy-hitters to their decks and get them into the action.
We’ll be sharing more details (including the full list of 23 cards) in a blog update on October 4. Stay tuned!
1,000 Win Class Portraits
Looking ahead, we want to continue celebrating personal successes and milestones for all you dedicated Hearthstone players. Our next major update will introduce some really cool new portraits that you can earn by earning 1,000 wins with each class. Wins earned before this update goes live will retroactively count towards these totals. Take a look at a couple of examples below and start stacking up those wins!
Quality of Life Improvements
Alternate Search Terms
We want it to be easier to quickly find the cards you’re looking for while deckbuilding, so we’re adding alternate search terms for some hard-to-type cards. We’ll be adding common misspellings and simplified versions of leetspeak card names (found on some Mech minions). For example, searching “snip” or “snap” will now show you SN1P-SN4P. While this feature will only be enabled for a few commonly misspelled cards at first, we’ll be able to add even more alternate search terms as needed.
- This feature will also support languages other than English. For example, SN1P-SN4P in Latin American Spanish is “CL1C-CL4C”, so searching “clic” would return the expected results.
While not included in our next major update, here’s a preview of some of the changes we’re making to quests a little further down the line.
- We’re cutting some of the less popular daily quests and tuning down some of their requirements to make them quicker and easier to complete. We’ll also be adding some new quests to the pool to mix things up!
- We split most daily quests into two buckets: Easy (50g) and Slightly More Difficult (60g). Rerolling a Slightly More Difficult (60g) quest (like Play 10 Beasts) always gives you an Easy (50g) quest, so players can be guaranteed to get an Easy quest every day if they want. We love Murlocs and Pirates as much as anyone, but it should be your choice if you decide to complete their quests.
We’re excited to be bringing these new features, events, and other changes to Hearthstone soon. Please let us know what you think on social media or the official Hearthstone forums. Until then, we’ll see you in the Tavern!
These cards will disappear from each player's collection after the event ends (source)
I mean it does make sense. If they just gave them away that would kind of devalue wild cards as a whole and it would actively discourage people from crafting Wild legendaries as you'd always have to worry that the legendary you just spent 1600 dust on came to you for free with the next event.
It's basically a free trial. Anyone who plays N'zoth and finds they like the idea might just craft him afterwards to use him in Wild.
I don't want to sound greedy or unreasonable, but I would have loved to have the chance to, let's say, keep one of those 23 cards (maybe not even a Legendary if you don't want to) , being that an encouragement for actually investing into Wild. I mean, something like SN1P-SN4P but for Wild.
I'm not against that, but how would that realistically be implemented? Would it be randomized like the free legendaries on expansions launch? I don't think there'S currently a possibility to let people select a card to keep out of multiple ones
Given that we're discussing "what if" scenarios, maybe they could temporary add a new section to the Collection Manager (do you remember the "Featured Cards" after the Rise of Mechs patch?), giving the instructions at the beginning and at the end of this event (just like when you nerf cards) so that players are aware of what is happening and can play having in mind what will happen.
I'm just saying, there could be a better solution or even a better idea.
Thanks for the source on that. Super lame. Also super lame how people are so attached to the feeling of obtaining stuff being dependent on others not having it. I don't care if they give out free cards even if they are cards I already own. I want more people to play more variety of formats it is good for the game.
Your comment is really mature, and it's not the first one I've seen so far: I commend you for that. Besides it, I totally agree with you: I don't have a full collection, but let's say that I don't have to grind that much if I want to reach Wild high ranks. That beings sad, it's likely that some of those 23 cards are in my collection, but I'd never oppose to the idea of everyone keeping them.
People with full collection probably feel as if their dust (previously spent on, let's say, Rag) had lost some of its original value: I can understand that feeling, although I don't share it at all.
I only play Casual and I only face meta decks, can my wins please goddamn count first?
I've 9.5K total wins, yet 0 golden heroes.
Also, I only play Wild. So this entire update is pointless for me.
So keep playing casual wild mode.Your comment is pointless to the rest of us,like the update it is for you...
If you only face meta decks anyway, why not play ranked?
Because I don't want to play vs the same copypasted decks, I think I've conceded more than actually played the game lol.
I play a lot of wild and I honestly face more Meta deck in Casual than Ranked. I think you'd be surprised at how diverse the Wild ladder can be.
actually, not. one in 3 opponents is a secret mage. Yes it can be very diverse, but not in the current meta
Well, this may be the chance for you to try some Standard stuff. Who knows, maybe it will be a nice diversion!
No thanks, I can do the same in Wild and more.
Remove gold earned in Casual or give points if you win in Casual while meta decks are allowed to play.
this is great news. I am so glad that they are not afriad to shake things up and try new things! Good job team 5!
I am excited for these free cards. I hope we get to keep them. I don't even care about overlap with ones I already crafted. It will boost peoples ability to play wild which is awesome. I really hope Sylvanas is coming back. One of my favorite cards I was super sad when she was HOF'd would go great with N'Zoth coming back too. This is going to be a fun event. I never crafted Ragnaros because I didn't have enough dust when he was in standard and don't play big priest in wild so it will be fun to play with him too.
Yeah I really hope too, even though I believe my heart knows the answer.
Oh well, only time will tell us.
Literally the first blue post: "When the event ends the event copies will go away." So no, you will not be able to keep them.
But man those portraits look super sick. Shame I'm not even close to 500 wins on my first class.
