Starting November 2nd, the rhythm game Beat Saber will no longer be supported with new updates or customer service for players using a Meta Quest 1. This will also include the loss of multiplayer, although you will continue to be able to play the game in a singleplayer capacity.

The gaming industry moves fast - especially with VR - and this can be seen as another step in shifting people to the newer VR products. Meta Quest 1 (or the "Oculus Quest", as it was originally known before a rebranding) was discontinued quickly into its lifespan, as the more powerful Meta Quest 2 came into the picture about a year later. We've since seen the release of a Meta Quest 3, as well, so it was only a matter of time before the original stopped seeing support altogether.

The developers of Beat Saber provided an explanation in their FAQ; you can see the quote below:

Quote From Beat Saber FAQ

As we continue developing Beat Saber, our goal is to raise the bar of what's possible. To focus our efforts in the right direction, we will no longer support Meta Quest 1 devices as of November 2, 2024. You will still be able to play Beat Saber on the Meta Quest 1 devices, but Multiplayer functionality will stop and Leaderboards functionality might be phased out in the future. We will also stop releasing updates and provide customer support for the Quest 1 devices. If you want to access the PC version of Beat Saber on your Meta Quest 1, you can do so via the Meta Quest Link.
