The mere fact that this can discover either Astromancer Solarian or Lady Vashj depending on the class you're playing makes this very powerful.
Exactly - at first glance i was like meh ... ok card but then i thought about the Discovers and yes - this one is pretty good
Challenge me ... when you're ready to duel a god!
There are some good options to be discovered, including the primes. Good card
The pool is less narrow than you might think.
There are a lot of very bad neutral spell damage minions, enough that I don't expect this to see a lot of play.
This post is discussing the wild format.
Flexible, powerful, and more importantly, essentially free, since the minion you get will also get a 1 mana discount.
Good all around card that I just can't find reasons for mage to not include. For shaman it might be a little more trickier, but not by much.
It's a nice way to get spell damage for Spell-only Mage. Also Cyclone bait.
I tried having fun once.
It was awful.
Mage : This can discover Astromancer Solarian and Ras Frostwhisper, so it will see A LOT of play in highlander mage, and mainly in burn mage, as they LOVE cheap spells. And they like spell damage minions as well so they can burst even more dmg to the opponents face. Also Primordial Studies can be discovered by cards like Magic Trick. So this will see a lot of use, even if you don't slot it in a deck. Also it will certainly see play in some Casino/Random Mage decks in WILD. (I certainly will. a chance to get multiple Astromancer Solarians is really good/fun!)
Shaman: This can certainly help out the spell-damage shaman archetype. This can discover Squallhunter and Ras Frostwhisper, so that's pretty good. Will certainly see play in spell-damage shaman, and maybe play in highlander shaman?
The bad thing about this card is the Discover Nerf from quite some time ago (Thanks Dr. Boom, Mad Genius and Omega Assembly), in this case it means that neutral spell-damage minions are as likely to show up as class spell-damage minions. This nerfs the card a bit, because there are a lot of bad spell-damage minions, like: Mana Reservoir, Dalaran Mage, Ancient Mage and Ogre Magi. (But of course this also means there is a chance to discover Bloodmage Thalnos as well = more card draw. Also there are not that many spell-damage minions in standard, so this downside isn't THAT bad.)
RNG is only fun as long as there is a 50/50 chance of getting something really good or trash level of bad. If RNG always results in something good, then it's not fun.
Right now the pool is great isn't it.. at just 1 mana i believe this can see play considering it benefits both mage and rogue
Primordial is just such a wonderful word.
It remains to be seen how useful this card will be. Although some Spell Damage support has come out with this expansion, most of the minions currently in the game aren't exactly stellar. If they continue to print good Spell Damage cards in future expansions though, this will definitely become a must have in those decks.
Started playing HS in May, 2015. The bad news: I missed the excitement of 'Naxx out?' and GvG. The good news: I never met an Undertaker.
Woo-hoo, odd spell damage shaman let's go!
I gave this card 4 stars just because I really want Spell Damage to be a thing.
I feel like a real Spell Damage deck is almost a possible thing in wild, it just needs a few more support cards. Hopefully this gives the deck a little bit more juice.
Carrion, my wayward grub.
Cheap discover cards have always found a home in constructed, I believe this card is no exception.
Spell Mage and Spell Shaman have DESPERATELY needed some spell damage support for their archetypes, but more often than not slotting in a spell damage minion means having to remove a powerful spell from your deck you'd rather play.
For both classes this card can discover their class legendaries from AoO, Lady Vashj and Astromancer Solarian, as well as the spell damage minions that were introduced in RoS (although I believe that there will be MANY more spell damage minions introduced in this set). Discounting the minion by (1) makes it much more playable, as well, since what usually stops the spell damage minions from being played (aside from Malygos) is their cost and poor stats.
Other cards this spell synergies with is Mozaki, Master Duelist, Ras Frost whisper and Mana Cyclone to name a few.
This card can also be discovered by Magic Trick, Cobalt Spellkin, Wand Maker and Arcane Breath in standard, I'm not certain if Shaman can discover this spell in standard at this time.
Regardless, a cheap, flexible card that gives a discounted minion that benefits Shaman and Mage's playstyle of using powerful spells to win the game. will see play
With the discover nerf too many bad spell damage minions going around.. sure you can get the good ones but not as often.. there's a reason those minions rarely see play, they are understated and normally too expensive.. the upside of this card is that it makes them cheaper at least..
Looks like they are making these study cards more interesting and useful than I thought they might. A way to get a discount draw on spell damage whenever you want seems very useful to me.
Official Lorekeeper and Spinner of Tavern Tales
That card reduces the cost of your own Malygos to 8 mana. 7 mana if stacks.
Maybe that let malyshaman shine with the new innervate.
With 2x Primordial Studies and 2x Lightning Bloom you have 7 extra mana to burst the enemy with +5 spell dmg.
And Vashj Prime reduces the cost of spells...
I don't know if It Will be good, but i'll try it for sure.
By The Holy Light!
Around 55% for a good card for shaman, around 62% for something good for mage. (just counting non-basic not super expensive cards)
Buff your spells by a minion you choose, and because of the discount the discover mana cost wasn't an investment?
Amazing, also as others mention, there not many spell power minions and in both classes ones that have it are the primes. This card seems pretty good.
An interesting way to support that Spell Damage archetype, although you might get bad, expensive Spell Damage minions. Even then, the good ones will be extremely helpful.
Those studies are really nice and useful. Who wouldn't mind a 2nd prime.
And I like how hard they are pushing spell mage.

I do like this one - also predicting it is going to be annoying and generating value - but I like this one
Struggle with Heroic Galakrond's Awakening? I got your back :
Hell yeah, this card will be fun and strong. I played a heavy spell damage deck way back in the vanilla days, but that sort of thing hasn't been too competitive in some time. Let's bring it back!

In standard there’s a lot of decent to really good ones you can discover, though even then it might not be quite consistent enough to be that good given that class minions are no longer prioritized with discover
Who needs consistency when you could have fun?
Strong card for 1 mana. A cheap spell for cyclon or to activate spellburst effect. Also can discorver some good spellminion (Astromancer Solarian or Malygos for exemple). Even if the discorvered card is awful, the discount remains
Hell this is going to be used in Mage...

Lemushki - The one and only since the 2006 rebranding.
Is those dedicated Spell Damage decks this probably finds a home, but its scope won't reach much beyond that. There are far too many weak Spell Damage minions and getting a 1 mana discount on a later turn won't be enough to justify running this most of the time.
Seems average, but better in Mage tho.
In Mage, it gives you a good chance of discovering a second Astromancer Solarian.
a lot worse than the hunter and druid counterparts, only really usable in spell dmg decks
All hail the banshee queen.
I don't think it will be very good outside of Malygos memes, but that could work.
I'm loving the spell damage support for both Mage and Shaman, and this card will help those archetypes out wonderfully.
Spell damage Mage will likely include this, and any other Mage will be happy to get this off of random/discover effects for a spell damage minion.
Shaman is likely going to use this mostly for OTK setups, but it also just enables tempo spell damage plays.
I think this will be one of the better studies cards this expansion.
Both dual class card and a study. Nice flavor plus a powerful card.
All sorts of potential with Spell Burst and Ras.
Because Mage were running out of ideas to discover spells, let's try this.
Good to get either prime, some other good cards that it can potentially get you. I’ll probably give this one a try in a few decks.
All studeis are dual class?
-=alfi=-
Very balanced card, wish the pool was a little greater though.
Thanks to denial, I'm immortal.
I hope some kind of elemental shaman with Krag'wa, the Frog and spell power will rise in wild
I think with the current mage and shaman Primes being spell damage related, this will be played.
Glad mage got this and not more spell discounts. Bring on the spell damage decks, keeeen! :D
TREMBLE before.... the most legendary dragon that ever existed!
I'm very excited to play Spell Damage Mage decks. A Spell Damage Shaman might work better in Wild with something like Crackle.
Quick! Someone give me something clever to write here.
The value here lies in the limited pool, and cost reduction. Shaman immediately gets a 16 damage finisher with Malygos and Lightning Bolt. Also important to note that both Primes in these classes are included in that tiny pool, so maybe Vashj will get some play.
While you do have a few standout spell damage minions in either class such as the primes, most of the existing spell damage minions in standard are of poor quality. I also think there isn't much use for the discount other than Lab Partner to play Sorcerous Substitute on turn 6, but that is pretty inconsistent to occur by that turn. Primordial Studies is just inconsistent in both aspects of its effect.
For glory, honor, and gold!
I really expected this to be Elementals when we first saw it, but I suppose I can see where they were going with, y'know, all the other cards in the set. Could be good to enable a combo with Malygos, which is fun.
Welcome to the site!
Considering some Spell Damage minions just aren't that great, it's a bit too random to see much play, in my opinion.
Still being a solid card in wild and standard after a few months of being out
