Wizards is continuing on with the Secret Lair product later this month with a new drop coming on August 24 to celebrate International Dog Day 2020.
The surprise product they launched this week, Prime Slime, unfortunately, didn't have a sleeve component which is a shame because the art from Wizard of Barge was insanely cool. That isn't to say the art in the upcoming "Every Dog Has Its Day" drop isn't cool, look at these adorable little doggos, it's just disappointing to not see the digital tie-in.
Here's the sleeve that the new product will come with.
The sleeves are necessarily tied to the product itself as Wizards has noted on the page and seeing as how previous Secret Lair sleeves have made their way into the MTG Arena Shop as daily deals, but this is the for sure, easy-to-obtain method of getting them.
Oh, you were interested in the actual product? Us too so we're glad you asked! There are two different drops happening on August 24 with both containing the exact same contents, the only difference is that you'll be paying $10 more if you want the foil edition of the cards. Here are all the adorable borkers.
- 1x Alt-Art Ancient Grudge
- 1x Alt-Art Dig Through Time
- 1x Alt-Art Lightning Greaves
- 1x Alt-Art Rest in Peace
As usual, the cards themselves will not be available in MTG Arena. These are physical products with the Sleeves being the digital reward.
The art for these cards was inspired by actual dogs of people who work at Wizards of the Coast, which makes for some interesting trivia.

That Rest in Peace is really sad, I hope Lucy in real life is okay.

Secret Lair stuff is interesting for the physical card game, but I don't see why they don't make some of this available in the digital format for gems or gold. I know it's far too tied together but if they allowed Arena to be it's own product I think it would do better.
For instance they way bans/suspensions of cards work in real life is a given because you can't alter everyone's cards with new text, but in digital the tech is there to nerf cards. Many of the banned list could be brought back with some tweaking.
I'm very disappointed they aren't pushing digital copies with the purchase. It would be an amazing way to boost the sales and make paper look even larger than it is.
Though, I do agree, they should just make this available as a purchase in MTG Arena itself. It would have to be a bit cheaper, though you would get a full playset since they are cosmetic skins, so it wouldn't be too cheap. I'd love myself some Eldraine lands or those SUPER SEXY Theros gods they put out during the world champs last year.
I think the ban and suspensions is important though. Keeping the games 1:1 makes it very easy to transition between them. Magic already has a lot of rules and is quite a complicated game so adding more confusion into the mix doesn't seem like a great idea. Definitely one of the more unfortunate downsides to their digital format since it doesn't feel very digital.
