Targon turned Runeterra into Hurthstone

What do you think fellow Hearthstonians?

 

Do you think Celestials are fine....?

Or

Is it the same CreatedBy as Hearthstone's Mage/Priest...?

 

The only nice thing about it for me is that it's rarer to chain a Celestial into another Celestial......

    Do I entirely think having 1 faction close out every other faction in terms of value generation is a good idea? Not entirely. 

    Do I think it can be simplified to the level of directly comparing it to Hearthstone? Not entirely. 

    It has a great deal of differences to it, but I do think other factions should have ways of generating value as well if they are going to allow such to exist. Value generation was rare and extremely high value since there were so few ways to easily draw and out last an opponent early on, that is something I think Targon solves a bit too well compared to other factions. I'm not even saying that all factions should have high value generation, but I don't think it should be limited to only one faction. I don't think its horrible or game ruining but I do think it should eventually be considered worth addressing.

    Feels like all I see on ladder right now is Leesin/Targon or Trundle/Targon.

    Even with celestials, LoR is still completely different from Hearthstone.

    Yes, there is an element of random chance thrown in, and there is insane value with Asol, no question.

    But, my money is on them nerfing/fixing things to the point that it's totally fine, and just another way to play this great game.

    I personally feel that's more about players acting like sheeple when choosing which decks to play rather than any indication of balance.

    Honestly, I think every region right now has at least 2 other regions it can be partnered with to produce an extremely strong deck.

    Invoke is not nearly as random as people seem to think it is. If you actually played it instead of just complaining about it, you'd understand this.

    I've played a lot of invoke, and it's actually very far from feeling random as you play it. You can very consistently get what you want. Especially with cards that restrict the invoke to certain mana costs (i.e., the majority of invoke effects), you can narrow your wish list to a two or three items and be confident that one of them will be offered.

    For example, I recently saw Mogwai complaining that his opponent's whole game plan changed because that opponent "randomly" got Cosmic Inspiration. I doubt that was the case. When you are playing Invoke and you can see that you'll be able to contest the board in a certain matchup, you start invoking for cards like Golden SisterBADCARDNAME and Cosmic Inspiration. If you are against a deck with lots of weak minions, you'll add Meteor Shower and possibly Cosmic Rays to the wish list. When a card like Solari Priestess only draws from a pool of six cards, you are basically guaranteed to get one of the two or three cards you wanted. If the card you really want isn't in her pool, you cast your net wider with Lunari Priestess, or dip into a different pool with Starshaping.

    What this means when you are playing against it is that: 1) You should think about what the Targon player will want from the invoke effect, 2) You should assume they get it, and 3) You can't play around the units, so you should focus on playing around the spells.

    It's not even in the same universe as a card like Hearthstone's Unstable Portal. If you take the trouble to remember what's available in the invoke pool and actually think about what they probably chose, it's fine. And the fact that every spell is slow makes it that much easier to play around them.

    The one card I would agree is kind of Hearthstone levels of stupid is Living Legends. That's just a blatant "I win no matter what" card, which is terrible design. Yes, at 10 mana, it needs to be strong, but nothing needs to be THAT strong.

    Discover effects was the best RNG hearthstone had to offer. I don't see a problem with it being implemented on Runeterra.

    I  agree with FortyDust. Invoke does have elements of RNG  it but the RNG can be controlled. E.g. decks that relies on champions to be drown tend to use Solari Priestess because there is a fairly high chance you'll get Written in Stars. And I think it is balanced by the fact that most of spells are "slow". The only time celestial cards gets out of hand is with an upgraded Asol and Living Legends. But that is hardly consistent enough to warrent a nerf. 

    So the celestials is no where near Hearthstone's level of RNG where Rogues, Priest and what not can generate cards from other classes. Things  can happen and cards like Behold the Infinite and Lunari Priestess, who has access to the entire pool of celestial cards, can cause moments of: "oh you just had to get that card". But again I think it is fairly balanced because it is not consistent.

    I left Hearthstone for Runeterra and had exactly the same thought.
    I had so much fun with LoR but after playing against invoke cards I had some bad memorys come back.
    I hate greedy Hearthstone/Blizzard and it would be horrifiying to experience LoR shifting to a cheap copy of their dumb and numb overpower amusement and RNG shit....

    To discover effects or to choose from two options (thoughtfull decision making that can be handled/answered) is not the same as getting just all the right cards from "Discover" mechanics or winning a game that was lost by things like Box of Pandorra or all of the Priest cards that just steal the best cards needed.

    Played Hearthstone for 4 years (quit due to how anti-consumer all of Activion's games have become) and yeah ... because of bs-rng moments.

    I also don't really like how Targon is embracing the rng with open arms. Is it as bad as HS? Of course not - but it isn't a good step for this game to take. Runeterra can't beat HS in terms of playerbase and they really shouldn't try.

    Targon - in my eyes - isn't helped by the fact that the region completely dominates expedition to the point that a few higher-value targon cards (especially invoke) basically win you the format. I have won countless expeditions myself drafting decks like that. Aurelion Sol is an example of  a card that just shouldn't be allowed in this format.
