Hearthstone's Duels Mode is Getting Balance Changes on April 13's Patch 20.0.2

Hearthstone's Duels mode is getting some love in a new balance patch arriving tomorrow, April 13. Read on for all the changes!

  • Ace in the Hole now costs 3 mana (Up from 2).
  • Rally the Troops now only reduces the cost of the drawn card by 3 (Down from 5).
  • Connections (Hero Power) is no longer passive and now costs 1 mana.

Rally the Troops

  • Old: After you play your first Battlecry card in a turn, draw a card. It costs (5) less. → New: After you play your first Battlecry card in a turn, draw a card. It costs (3) less.

  • I think it's a shame they nerfed Connections, I really enjoyed quest rogue. The free 1-cost minion made curving out possible after spending your turn and a starting card on playing the quest.

  • Rally the troops is so busted, everyone instapicks this treasure - it would honestly even be good if it didn't discount the drawn card just because certain classes lack draw so much

  • Wait how was "rally the troops" ever considered balanced? Doubling Battlecries is already pretty good, casting what would likely be a 5 Mana spell instead seems way better. Now it just casts Far Sight, which should make it good but not ridiculously OP.

  • Who could have possibly guessed massive mana discounts and infinite value could cause problems in Hearthstone?!

  • kinda expected more after the "we’d like to share that we’ll have several additional updates for Duels in our next client patch." announcement

    • Yes, this seems very light all things considered. But at least they are really trying to adjust Duels as much as (if not more than) Standard, for the time being.
