So this isnt about who's your favorite cheese in the mercs game mode. But rather whos your favorite merc outta the characters we've met this year? Personally my favorite is Varden they're pretty neat and I like their dynamic with the rest of the group of what we saw em do in mercs. Bru'kan the funny chicken troll is definitely second though.

Self proclaimed good at battlegrounds
I have not played the adventure, but I would personally say Rokara because setting out to become a warrior and then becoming a pirate is cool.
Your face is already dead
Currently, the answer is Tamsin. The undead person being the enemy - and a warlock no less - is more than a little cliche, but she's got enough character to make it work. With an amusing amount of sass to her, Tamsin seems to relish her position as the "bad guy." That said I could have gone without the Captain Barbosa "I feel....cold" line when she died in Cariel's story; that was a little hackneyed.
Personally i would say Cariel or Tamsin. The thing i like about tamsin is that she is the "comic relief" character at one moment with all of her of "Imp" puns, and the next moment she can be the most messed up and scary merc out of the cast. The fact that the undead warlock is the villain is kinda cliché to me, but i still think they have done a really good job with her story so far.
The thing i like about Cariel is the story of her and tamsin, and everything she did after Tamsin died to the scourge. I also really like how Cariel immediately left her post to find the forsaken warlock that "looked like tamsin" because that shows how much she truly cared about tamsin, even if she was turned into a forsaken. Just look at the final fight of Kurtras BoM, where Cariel instantly joins tamsin and betrays Kurtras despite the fact that Kurtras and Cariel worked together for the entirety of Kurtras BoM. Also even when tamsin summoned Anetheron into stormwind Cariel still thought tamsin was redeemable... until she saw what Tamsin did to their father. I'm weirdly really looking forward to seeing how Cariel will react to Tamsin being Ressed as a lich by Lady Prestor.
But i do want to say that Varden is also on top of my list, Varden is pretty cool. I just hope were going to get some Varden lore or a Varden BoM in not too long. I really want to learn more about Vardens backstory, because that's something Varden kinda lacks right now. (Unless i missed something.)
RNG is only fun as long as there is a 50/50 chance of getting something really good or trash level of bad. If RNG always results in something good, then it's not fun.
Is this a confirmed thing, that tamsin was raised back as a lich by lady prestor? We know shes a lich now, but not who raised her
Uh they said this in the Hearthside Chat video where they revealed the tamsin hero card. They reveal this between timestamps 1:30 and 1:52! Actually i did make a small mistake, she got ressed by Lady Prestor AND kazakus.

Varden told Scabbs they were spying on Kazakus, so there is definitely something interesting about their backstory we don't yet know. That's about all the info we have currently though, I think.
For me personally, I like Xyrella most so far, largely because its nice to see someone of that demeanor. It's amazing how rare it is to find characters that are somewhat solemn and serious without them becoming edge-lord caricatures that completely lose all sense of humour (*cough* Kurtrus *cough*). It's also nice that when she is funny, it doesn't resort to puns, quips or even jokes, but is much more natural and just emerges as part of the conversation (she's somewhat like Black Panther in the MCU in that regard).
Overall, they did a pretty good job with diversity and representation in the mercs, with gender (5:4:1 for male:female:non-binary) and race (the Roame family being black) as well as with personalities. Hopefully Kurtrus softens a bit in AV, and Guff holds the unfortunate honour of being HS's Jar Jar Binks (he was literally outcast for his idiocy!), but otherwise they're generally pretty good.
None. This mode sucks. It a bad version of FF1 that came out in 1987 : )-

I am honestly confused as to how you can pick Dawngrasp as your favorite when we pretty much no absolutely nothing about them and their character boils down to "friends and research I guess". Without an accompanying book of Heroes there's just nothing to work with.
Also Tamsin is the best one by virtue of having an entertaining personality without just being a copy-paste stereotype like Guff or Rokara.
I tried having fun once.
It was awful.
Cariel, Tavish and Rokara
OK. Now you've successfully ignored OP's very first sentence and assumed they were asking about the game mode, can you address the actual question and give your opinion on the mercenary characters (as represented in the Book of Mercenaries solo mode)?
I guess my favorite would be the Red Mage. It has a combination of good magic selection and hit power. When it upgrades to Red Wizard it can even learn useful spells like Life.

*Sigh* You'll obvious keep up the trolling if we continue with this, but you could at least have told us why Red Mage has the best character/story/personality rather than mechanics :P
