What Are You Playing? Omega October 2024

Submitted 2 months, 4 weeks ago by

What are you up to this month? Have any games in mind for the future? Let us know in the comments below!

My plans to complete Black Myth: Wukong in a timely fashion have backfired, with various other things vying for my time instead. Was gonna knuckle down and finish it this week, but between the latest Steam Fest and me having to be away from my computer for six days starting tomorrow, it just won't happen at this time. I've got Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom to consider, too, and Diablo IV's Vessel of Hatred expansion starting next Monday. Kinda annoyed, but I only have myself to blame: the opportunities were there if I wanted to take them.

In addition, I need to consider if I care enough about Dragon Age: The Veilguard to pick that up later this month. I played Origins ages ago, and I really enjoyed the game, but that's as far as I've gone in the series. It might be a major title in regards to reviewing, or it might flame out spectacularly; I'll play it by ear and figure it out another day.

I've been playing Echoes of Wisdom and it's been OK so far. The summoning system makes combat more interesting for me (although I've maybe gotten a bit too stuck on the "just drop a bunch of sea urchins" strategy) and of course I've also been building bridges and ladders out of beds to reach most places. It feels very similar to Zelda games like Link to the Past and Minish Cap, although it's slightly more focused on exploration, which is something I enjoy in video games.

My biggest complaint is that the two main bosses I've beaten so far took an arbitrarily high number of hits to bring down - but maybe I'm used to Zelda bosses who have specific vulnerability windows and communicate more clearly to the player how far they've progressed in the fight. In my experience, each boss in Echoes had two phases (that I could tell) and the second phase both times felt incredibly grindy, with the same pattern playing out over a dozen times even though I hit them multiple times during their vulnerability window (of course, this could just be because I'm notoriously terrible at boss fights, but this was different from my usual suckage). I have hope it'll get better because there was an optional dungeon boss whose pattern I found a lot more rewarding once I figured out what I needed to do.

I'm not very far into the game, so we'll see how it plays out from here.

I don't want to cure cancer; I want to turn people into dinosaurs.

So my desire to play Marvel Snap is waning for a third time, but it's not my wallet's fault this go-around: the daily missions give me the feeling that I must play every day, and the game starts to feel like an obligation. I hate that shit with a passion: I want to play games when and how I feel like it because I enjoy them, not because of some requirement to play in an effort to stay afloat in the Snap economy. This might be the death-knell for me; third time's the charm?

Marvel Rivals had a daily missions thing too during the beta, and while that game was very fun, I am concerned what effect such a system will have on me yet-again.

Live service games: can't live with 'em, can't kill 'em lol.

Diablo IV's expansion Vessel of Hatred has been a blast, by the way. The Spiritborn is ridiculously fun and kicks so much ass; I hope they can bring the other classes up to its level, rather than hit Spiritborn with the nerf bat.

Worms MD (2016), Panzer Elite (1996?) - was fun researching how to make it work under windows 11 (dgVoodoo rulz), Empyrion Galactic Survival. And my usual shit - tales&tactics, pathfinder, tainted grail.

Pondering whether to start endless space 2. Had a very heavy discount for it on GOG and bought it.

I have been enjoying my preorders I got on my first month on my last job so I have been playing God of War Ragnarok (Wow, what an amazing game) and did it 100%,

Also got Dragon Ball Sparking Zero (It is everything I have wanted from it) and that has been my go to since I finished 100%ing God of War.

In 3 days I am visiting Argentina (my country) after 5 years so I left Echoes of Wisdom for the trip as I will be away from my pc and from the other 2 games.

Other than those 3 main games, Age of Mythology Retold is still going strong when I am in the mood and I am planning on replaying Samurai Jack Battle Through time.

And well, 1 hour of Fall Guys almost every day from Monday through Friday when my Wife is in her break from work.

Lemushki - The one and only since the 2006 rebranding.

I started up XCOM 2 again since I hadn't finished War of the Chosen yet.

It was quite fun, but I encountered my fair amount of typical XCOM stuff if you know what I mean.

haha, this is 4th week of Oct (at the time of replying) so let me share what I've played this month:

I started playing Hades and I really enjoyed it! The gameplay is fun, but sometimes I feel like the story gets a bit lost in all the action. Then I tried Assassin's Creed Mirage next.

I just finished a few rounds of Hollow Knight in the past weekend. The art is amazing, but man, the difficulty is no joke! Starfield is my all time favorite one so I play it when I don't want to play any game.

I also tried geometry dash lite & 2.2 version this week.

I'm thinking to try Cyberpunk 2077 again with the updates. Hoping it's less buggy now.

So this is my october journey so far...

I bought Dragon Age: The Veilguard today, mostly because I think it will be fun but also possibly out of spite against the "anti-woke" diatribes out there. Not making any promises regarding a review: I'm struggling to enjoy stuff once it becomes a "task" in my mind, so I will just...play the game, enjoy it as best I can, take pictures now and then, and go from there.

On a similar note, Pokemon TCG Pocket drops worldwide tomorrow, and I'll give it a gander.

Unlocked all of the achievements for Victory Heat Rally. Such a fun game!

I'm not sure how I unlocked the achievement for winning 200 races before the one for all paints unlocked since there are 12 characters which each require 16 race wins to unlock all their paints, which would be 192 races (assuming you don't go over the threshold of 16 for any character). Maybe the challenge medals count as race wins for the achievements but not for unlocking paints?

Eh, but who do I care? I had an absolute blast unlocking everything.
