@alkali_layke @Slysssa Only if you were going to demo the whole thing.

@alkali_layke @Slysssa HGTV is the main cause of this phenomenon. The shows cater to this notion and are written/edited to make it always seem quick and easy. It’s not. I’m an architect who has specialized in custom homes for 17 years… we HATE remodels.

@Bored_Certified @Slysssa I bet! Thankfully, our house isn't that bad. It was just built in the 2005 rush so too many corners were cut. Mostly easy fixes.

@alkali_layke It always depends on the amount of 'fixer uppering' it need and the skill the buyer brings to the fixer upper. I bought a 3 story in Detroit that was all beat up, but I had done renovation work before, so it wasn't so bad.

@Sabian187 3rd house of reno so we're ok with repairs. Just sucks when you're not expecting it

@alkali_layke The "sensibles" in my family either built or had others build their homes from scratch which was a fraction of the cost of buying one outright AND they knew everything about them. Granted, not everyone has that kind of time but it's still something to consider in the future.

@FearowFanatic I've built a house before and that was nice. The market in Boise is insane right now though and decent sized land is insane. We found big house on a huge lot and there was no way we could have bought or built it for what we spent. We're super happy, even with the fixes.

@alkali_layke Just talk to your lender about a construction mortgage addition so you can contract out everything needed then sell it, take all the equity, and buy something newer that doesn’t need work. In the end, it’s all money in your pocket with the price creepage, for few years imo

@BryninnErickson Nope. Super happy. It's my forever home. There's zero chance in the Boise market that I could get what I have now. It would cost double. These fixes are minor in comparison and this house is stunning. Sticking around
