Used to be my pinned tweet, but I like it so to recap: I decided I wanted it, so I applied like 30 times over 5 years, buffing my skills, connections, and presentation each time until finally it was the right fit. https://t.co/HqxJbVLNDG

There were some close calls along the way, and it was emotionally tough, but I stuck with it and ultimately landed on a team that feels perfect for me. Lessons here: 1) just keep hustling and improving; 2) sometimes the right fit isn't where you think it'll be.

Can't emphasize enough that after the 3rd "close call" I was starting to feel hopeless. It's non-linear (you get better over time, but so do others), so I was starting to think it would never happen. It hurts to hard devote 5 years to something and have that feeling.

2 weeks later, the position I ultimately ended up with opened up.

Blizzard often takes some time to make sure they make the right pick, so I actually applied to, eventually got offered, and accepted another cool position after I sent my app in for this position.

I didn't want to screw this other job--they were cool people and it really was a cool job I would have liked over where I was--but you can't pass on your dream job.

So I kind of stalled the other job a bit while I pushed Blizz to pick up the pace. I ended up getting the Blizz offer literally the Friday before I was supposed to start the other job. Sorry other job!

As an added bonus, that urgency and competition ended up with me getting a better offer from Blizzard than I expected, so that was dope.
