Watched Belle, the anime movie, today. Overall was OK, but I was really put off by the combination of ultra-detailed/rendered backgrounds + ultra-low-detail characters of a complete different style. Is that just how anime is nowadays?

@Celestalon It's a stylistic thing - makes those moments of ultra-detail really pop, but keeps the traditional hand-drawn for more authentic expression. I think it depends on the studio really. I really really want to go see that one, I'm just leery about hitting up a theater!

@Shadesogrey Assigned seating at the spectrum VIP theaters has seemed like a reasonable level of risk for triplevaxxed and non-at-risk people to me, but YMMV.

@Shadesogrey They're the recliner seat theaters, only like 5 rows of 15 seats.

@Celestalon The answer is no. Compared that to Fog Hill of Five Elements, Belle is just made very cheaply and poorly. It reeks of deadlines and overdue projects. Fog Hill of Five Elements is a very recent anime(2020) with a little more effort to the animation.

@rastamondays That looks pretty cool. I feel like Belle was trying to go for a matrix-like "outside world looks bland / virtual world looks awesome" thing... but then they made the outside backgrounds all ultra-detailed, practically 3d rendered? I dunno.
