Content creation thread incoming! Pretty important topic this time: Burnout and how I was 90% sure I was going to quit Hearthstone last month. It's kind of crazy how you can start hating the things you love doing every single day, here's what I learned from it

As a creator you have ups and downs. Bad viewership, slow growth, not reaching goals, doubt. But even with all of this happening, if you truly enjoy what you're working on you'll just roll with the punches and understand that this is part of the process.

Failure is mandatory if you want to grow and learn. And it wasn't some stupid setback that lead to my absence and made me question everything. It was the opposite, everything was going fine and I got scared to confine myself into this "box". This is what I'm doing right now,

this is what I've been doing since the start and this is what I'll have to do until the end. Because it's what I've built, and I can't just throw that away. The first time I tried to experiment and make a bigger project, a video that can reach people both within this niche of HS

and outside of HS quickly became my best performing video ever. The next 2 videos where I tried to branch out were my 2 worst videos in a while. This is where my heads starts spinning and won't stop, clearly there's potential, and I love big projects.

Here's the lesson I learned, I wasn't able to compartmentalize. I was never able to separate my work from my passion and free time, my channel and content is an extension of who I am and my worth. This is bad, passion for your work is good but when your passion IS your work...

I love Hearthstone, so I started making videos for it. That's all I did ever and I didn't want it to be all I'll ever be doing, so I was looking for new things I'm passionate about. But it's a vicious cycle, once I make that "new" content I'll just look for the next thing again.

James P. Carse talks about 2 types of games: The finite and the infinite games. I tried to apply this concept to my life and content creation. My journey is the infinite game. I have no end goal, just a drive to be creative and explore the possibilities, to learn.

This job is 1 of my many finite games within this infinite one. It shouldn't take all my energy. I try my best here, compete within the set boundaries and rules and try to make it to the finish line. Then a different finite game will be waiting for me.

Work is work, you can be passionate about it, but don't let it consume you. Force boundaries, find different interests and view content creation not as an extension of yourself, but an independent game you're playing so you can distance yourself. So why Hearthstone?

This is the niche I chose, and one I'll stick with until I see no more future. Here's a video I recorded and almost uploaded. I might not always enjoy the game and making videos for it, but that's okay. I can find joy in different things now until that same spark returns https://t.co/P0YBhPhIow

sorry for the long thread lol I hope that anyone in the same boat or with the same issues of constantly finding joy and meaning in your work can relate. This is a weird job, one that easily takes over your entire life. That's it, thanks for reading!

@ItsBen321 I like your analogy of finite and infinite games to work and life. I’ll be thinking on that for a while
