I have an unpopular opinion... I like Placebo's cover of Running Up That Hill more than Kate Bush's original. đŸ˜”â€đŸ’« I know; it is an incorrect opinion... but I'm 34 years old, so it's the version I was listening to when I was an angsty high schooler.

@annafunk I don’t think that’s an unpopular opinion. I think it’s probably the popular one, by a significant margin.

@Celestalon @annafunk While there can be crass commercial reasons for covering a well-known song, the artistic merit lies in translating something meaningful to one generation of listeners to bring meaning to another. So it's perfectly valid to prefer a cover to an original. It means it did its job.

@Celestalon @annafunk That said, Placebo would be the first to refute your claim that their take is preferred "by a significant margin". Kate's version was a hit on the charts in 1985, 2012, and 2022. Placebo's version had far more modest success. But that doesn't mean you can't like it better. :)

@SteveDanuser @annafunk Ah, didn’t know about the recent two resurgences. (Oh, I suppose I did know about the current one, but wasn’t really taking that into account.)
