The Algorithm results in some of the most bizarre viewing habits. At some point a couple months ago, Facebook randomly showed me a video of cow hoof trimming. I have no interest in cows or their hoof care. But for some odd reason, I watched it.

      The Algorithm learned that I like cow hoof trimming. Now it shows me one EVERY DAY. And most days, I watch it. Why? I have no fucking clue. But for some reason, I’m willing to watch 1 hoof being trimmed per day, and THE ALGORITHM KNOWS.

        @Celestalon One 1 cow hoof trimming video per day though, that’s the level of interest 🤣

          @Snugzmeow Yeah, more than that would definitely be weird.

        @Celestalon It is weirdly satisfying, even if you don't understand why it keeps you coming back for more. The mind works in mysterious ways

          @TheFluffyAnima1 Indeed.

        All I can think about this situation is that if we relied on manual curation of matching video content to our interests, either personal or by humans... this would never have happened. But instead, an Algorithm controls the situation, and now we all have a daily hoof craving.

          Like, imagine if this applied to soda fountain machines. You can walk up and manually pick a drink, or it just recognizes you and defaults to something it thinks you'll like. Sounds great, but would it result in many of us secretly having a small shrimp shake every night?

          @Celestalon So you are saying if I like these tweets the algorithm will start showing me hoof trimming videos.

            @BobalosRex It's too late already. You *responded to* these tweets. I give it 2 days before some social media platform shows you a cow hoof trimming video.

      @Celestalon Chadd...I literally got that video last night out of nowhere and spent the next 90 minutes watching different clips of it.
