If I took two famous paintings and simply cut them in half, and combined half of one with half of another, could I claim it as an original work? Could I take half of the Mona Lisa and half of Persistence of Memory and call it "Mona Memory" and sell it? That's what AI art does.

@DevSpacePrez Just as a devil’s advocate, this does remind me of the kinds of arguments around the early days of DJing, electronic music, and rap beats. But the solution is the same: pay the original artist with permission, or be transformative beyond the original work.

@DigitalMoteur I've been clearer in other places but If you train your model on public domain art that's fine (but then the results should also be public domain) If you train it on your works or works you license then go nuts But if you train it on others work without permission, issue

@Celestalon @DigitalMoteur @DungeonAlchemi1 Yeah, this is the kind of thing I'm totally jazzed about. AI Tools to make it easier for you to build, not AI robot builders to replace you entirely by copying others.

@DevSpacePrez @DigitalMoteur @DungeonAlchemi1 (And the source art is all its own/licensed.)
