Has anyone ever done anything like "hoard mode" in DnD? Like, you and your party are level 20, and you all first fight a wave of kobolds, then a wave of goblins, and etc. Would that be super fun? Or... super boring? Anyone with experience in something like that?

@DnDeej I think that would be super cool in a system like Earthdawn, but I suspect the spell slot system would kill that in D&D.

@Celestalon I think cantrips could handle the first few waves (if low level enough), but they *might* gwt a little poke damage. Maybe drain lower spells on waves 5-10? I could see it being cool if it had a TON of testing for balance. I'll definitely have to peek at Earthdawn now though!

@DnDeej If you're no familiar with Earthdawn, a quick peek at its spellcasting system will likely leave you confused. It sounds way more complex that it really is. TLDR: Spells have cast time, not limited uses per rest.

@Celestalon @DnDeej Thread Magic is SOOO much better than Spell Slots, IMO. Have you seen the stuff they did with it in 4E?

@jpmarcotte @DnDeej Yeah, I've played quite a lot of Earthdawn (love it). We mostly played 3E (that's what was current when my group started), and pulled in 4E stuff that we found interesting. Anything in particular that you're referring to?
