Our brains are wired to make us feel similar kinds of pleasure when we tell others about our goals, and we actually accomplish them. The more we talk about goals, the less motivated we become to actually achieve them. 2/2

@AlecoGereco But public accountability helps a lot with pursuing goals. It's not all black or white. There's a whole chapter on that topic, based on a review of scientific literature in the field, in Ayelet Fishbach's book Get It Done.

@TolkiCasts Very fair to say that this isn’t black and white. I probably should have specified that this is what has worked best for me in the past - several times in my life I have given up on goals shortly after sharing them with others. Including ones I had made decent progress on!
