yo this sucks actually? people not being able to add me on discord without me telling them the discriminator was a feature not a bug so now i either get to allow impersonators, or pick a random unguessable name and have to override it constantly truly incredible work 👍 https://t.co/SoTMZZxGNe

@chhopsky I've been on discord since 2015 so there's a slight bit of relief of 'well, I get first dibs based on this helpdesk article' but holy

@Artemishowl_ same, but all i can think is: a) how easy that makes it for me to abuse, and; b) how i now have a problem i did not have before, and; c) how this confluence of things leads to a need for checkmarks, and; d) why anyone would move TOWARDS twitter strategy in 2023

@chhopsky @Artemishowl_ d) Twitter and IG and Facebook and TikTok and YouTube and virtually every other platform, right? Discord/bnet/Steam are the other way. If anything, it's moving Discord more toward a social media platform than a game platform. (I still don't think the change cost is worth it tho)

@Celestalon @Artemishowl_ yeah, places you want to be discoverable for people who don’t know you which, good lord that’s what id want for servers not user accounts 1:N publishing: usernames peer to peer comms: discriminators

@chhopsky @Artemishowl_ Yeah, I wish servers had a unique simple servername.

@chhopsky @Artemishowl_ I think it just clicked for me about what you meant by that last part above, and that's exactly right, IMO. The social medias are 1:N relationships. When you tweet or IG post, you're posting to the world (by default), anyone that wants to follow you. Here, simplicity in users… https://t.co/OZteTPKmuH
