Since in that comment you mention that the MM works by building one party, and looking for a matching second party, I'll shamelessly re-ask my unaswered question from the AMA (I'm only talking about Hero League here):

Once the matchmaker has determined the 10 players for the match, does it try all possible combinations of putting them on the two teams (there's (10 choose 5)/2=126 such combinations if my math is correct), and pick the closest match?

If not, could you consider making such an improvement?

    Nobody's got any shame here!

We'd been talking about doing that for a while, just hadn't hit the top of the priority list. I had some time this week, though, so I tried it out and looked at some results.

Unless something horrible happens in further testing, this improvement is coming with the next major content patch for all queues.

I tried to cover the basics and answer some of the questions that pop up these days. Especially since there seems to be a lot of confusion about what the Soft Reset actually did. I hope the video clears a few things up and helps to understand how the current system works on a basic level

Loved the video, Khaldor! You did a good job summarizing the state of Ratings and Matchmaking right now. We appreciate your trust that we'll keep making things better.

I'm also going to shamelessly hijack this post since it's on the front page to point people to a thread from yesterday that I've been responding to, and give some details about how we think about changes, and a change we've just made: See Here

    Cheers, all!
