Magic products use too much packaging

I started a petition to get WotC/Hasbro to reduce the amount of packaging used in their Commander Preconstructed decks.

It bothers me how wasteful the packaging for the Commander Precons is. This product could easily be packaged in something closer to the size of the deck box that comes with the deck. Given how much money this would save Hasbro this is something we could realistically get them to change.

Hey there everyone. We’re happy to see so many people passionate about this subject, especially since our product design teams also believe it’s a place where we can do a lot to match the Hasbro vision for 2022. The updated Commander deck boxes you’ve seen in Zendikar and Commander Legends are our first steps in reducing plastic packaging and our overall packaging footprint, but those are just the beginning. You’re going to continue to see changes to packaging in our 2021 products to reduce the amount of plastic we use, and we’re even exploring some options very close to what the OP in this thread describes!

We don’t have any additional details we can share at this time, as a lot of what we’re doing for packaging in 2021 gives away some products we’re not ready to talk about yet. However, we are actively iterating on lower-plastic packaging, and we’re looking forward to sharing what our teams have made as soon as we can. Continue letting us know what you’d like to see as we work toward having more sustainable packaging options. The community team will share this feedback with relevant teams here at Wizards, and thank you for sharing it with us!
