Why can I put my game in epic mode with 60 fps but not get 144 fps in low graphics mode?

Hi everyone,

First time I use reddit, hope everything will be fine. :) Sorry also for my English that is not always accurate.

I would like to get a 144 fps screen but I'm not able to reach 144 fps constantly in the game. Everything is fine with 60 fps even in Epic/Ultra mode. But when I try to get 144 fps in low graphic mode, the CPU is going to 100% when there is a lot of actions and I experience fps drops (approximately 110-120 fps).

Here is my PC's specifications :

  • Motherboard : MSI H97 GAMING 3
  • CPU : INTEL I5 4690K
  • Graphic card : Sapphire Radeon R9 290 Tri-X 4G GDDR5 OC
  • Power supply : COOLER MASTER G750M
  • RAM : GSKILL DDR3 8GB

What do you think, is it normal or not? Should I get a new CPU or GPU? Both? Or is the problem coming from somewhere else?

Thank you in advance for your kind assistance :)

In order to hit 60fps you need to be able to do one frame of simulation in under 15ms. To do 144 you need to do a frame in under 7ms.

Turning down graphics settings can make it easier on your GPU but you're probably CPU bound here with an i5.
