A noob's grand adventure
I just completed a two week long goal in WOW, and thought I would share my great triumph with this subreddit. Warning: it's very long, and has a number of noob mistakes along the way.
To start off, I've been playing WOW for about a month or two. I have a friend who got me interested in playing it, although I had previously played Warcraft III and Hearthstone. Anyway, one of my favorite features of WOW so far has been the Battle Pets (I love me some knock off Pokemon). During one of the dungeons I was playing in, I discovered a recipe for how to make one. I asked my friend about it, and he told me to select the professions engineering and mining. I didn't really start working on them until level 40 or so (Huge Mistake #1!). Once I did, I started power grinding up to level 205 to make it. Once I got up to that level, I could finally make my pet..... except for one problem... Fused Wiring.
For those of you who don't know what that is, Fused Wiring is an item that requires level 275 of engineering to craft... and I was not prepared to grind another 70 levels for it. I checked the Auction House, but each one was very expensive (30 gold a pop when I checked). For a new player like myself, that was a bit too expensive for me to blow on a random component of a build (Huge Mistake #2!). So I looked around for where this was dropped. Only one place: Gnomeregan dungeon.
I am a level 53 Troll, so the dungeon existing only in the Alliance land is a problem. I ask my friend, and he says I can walk there, but I'll probably need to corpse run it if I'm going to make it. I begin my journey, and after around 20-30 deaths, I finally make it, while catching 10 new pets in the process! At this point, I look at my armour and realize how completely destroyed it is.... Yep, never removed the armor during all the deaths (Huge Mistake #3!). Oh well, I'm 20 levels higher then everything in this dungeon, shouldn't be a problem.
First run, I just ignore all the enemies and try to rush to the end (Arcane Nulifiers have the highest drop rate, and are located near the end of the dungeon). I don't make it even halfway there before dying.... Without my armor, and being a healer, this dungeon was going to be much harder then I expected. Each fight was a struggle, I had to constantly heal myself while slowly burning down the enemies. During one particularly bad fight, I begin running off course, and accidentally run into a portal.... which takes me to the Stranglethorn Forrest.... yep, didn't know about that (Huge Mistake #4).
Anyway, after 3 days of grinding (playing 1-2 hours a day), I finally manage to collect my Fused Wiring. God damn, did that feel good. I immediately hearth back, and build my prize, my Pet Bombling! I have played video games for a long time, but I have never felt more satisfied with something then I did making this pet. Thanks for listening!
