Your content will be missed, but I'm sure you'll look good in blue, Lore.
Are you going to be able to use Devolore or Lore as your blue name?
Do you think you'll still have time to raid with Months Behind?
Still planning on raiding, yes, although scheduling may conflict with MB's current raid schedule. Not planning on leaving the guild though; they're my friends.
All the big content makers (streamers, youtubers, article writers, etc) are fulltime, getting paid by ads and sponsors.
It's not something they brag about, because we like to think of the internet as a voluntary playground where we entertain each other. But in this day and age, that's just how it is :)
I'm a little tiny bit sad, that Lore joins Blizzard, because anytime a freelancer gets taken up by a big company, it seems to suggest that the market isn't big enough to support freelancing.
But enough negativity from me :D I wish Lore the best of luck, I'm sure he'll have a lot of useful input.
Market is definitely big enough to support freelancing. I'm quite comfortable where I am now in terms of finances -- the move to CA is not for money at all.
I think the biggest issue people might be worried about is that there is no way Lore will be able to be as candid as he is now, and Lore's down to earth, "keeping it real" commentary is what is so good about him right now. I quit before Heart of Fear even opened, but I still occasionally check out Lore's videos because I like hearing what he has to say. I think it's safe to say that once he is officially at Blizzard he will be forced to be just another blue, not because he will "only care about the money and not about the community," but simply because of conditions and terms of employment.
I think what a lot of people don't realize about the community team is that, while they may not publicly state their personal opinions about game changes etc. on the forums, they DO discuss those opinions (along with the feedback that comes from the community) to the developers themselves. I might not come onto the forums and go WOW THIS CHANGE IS TERRIBLE WTF BLIZZ or whatever, but I won't need to -- I can just go bang on Ghostcrawler's door ;)
as soon as I read the title, I felt this coming. I'm saddened to think that with the reputation he's built, it won't matter. People will still just assume he's on the payroll (which he is, but because of how he's able to layman's changes to us) and that's why he agrees with the changes. I am 100% certain that LORE won't let that happen and that he'll let us know when things aren't right. Bashiok too, but again, he gained the reputation of being "blizzard puppet" even though he's far from it and he really believes in the things Blizzard does. I have a job where I am in the extreme minority in that I play WoW. I get made fun of daily and get called a "fanboy" among other things. I don't care. I love Blizz. Mike M. helped me get through high-school with Diablo and Warcraft: Orcs and Humans. I sunk myself in those two games and escaped from the realities of the all-too-common shitty home/school life.
My coworkers see me as a WoW Geek, and I don't care. They don't understand how I'm "so cool in every other way" but I have this "one thing" that brings me down.
It doesn't bring me down. It's part of me; it's part of my personality. I'm so cool in every other way BECAUSE I play WoW and BECAUSE I love Diablo. Either except me wholly or STFU and let me do my job in peace.
People already assume I'm on Blizzard's payroll in my other content whenever I defend a choice that, while right for the game, they disagree with. It's something I've just sort of grown accustomed to. Trolls will be trolls and the best thing to do is just laugh at them and move on :)
I told my fiance about your promotion last night ... she doesn't play wow or watch your content. However I told her ".... he's a guy who's been doing the job that Blizzard should have been doing. I think it's great he's finally being paid by the company to be their official spokesman instead of the unofficial one."
Congrats on getting all the things that come with full time employment man. It's gonna be weird not seeing you in your room with all your blizz stuff and rubix cubes.
I get you're not allowed to talk about WoW stuff off the clock on the internet. But will you do ANY type of podcasting anymore or is the "Lore the Interwebs Caster' days behind us.
Will be figuring all that out in detail once I'm settled in at Blizzard. I'm hoping I can convince them to at least let me do some stuff still :)
Is your focus on the game in general, or do you have a bias towards pve/pvp?
As a CM? I don't believe I have a specific PvE vs PvP assignments (I don't even think they do that). As a player I mostly do PvE with some casual PvP on the side (not due to a dislike of PvP, mind, it's entirely due to time constraints).
What ideas do you have that everyone keeps touching on?
TONS of ideas, both the team at Blizzard and myself have been brainstorming some awesome stuff. Nothing I can talk about yet but it's all very exciting :)

I'd be more concerned about whether they'll ever let me cut it...
