With the global release of Legend of Runeterra's first expansion, Rising Tides, coming in one day, we thought we'd run a recap and showcase the new keywords coming with the set.
There are six new keywords in total with plenty of tidal flavor.
You can find all our Rising Tides coverage here or if you're looking for all the revealed cards, you'll want to head on over to our Rising Tides expansion guide.
New Keyword - Attune
When I'm summoned, refill 1 spell mana.
This keyword helps play cheap spells which are aplenty in Bilgewater decks. Here are some examples of cards with Attune.
New Keyword - Deep
I have +3|+3 once your deck has had 15 or fewer cards left.
This keyword is found on the new Sea Monster subtype and a few other cards. Our goal is to delay the game so we can exhaust our deck and gain great power on our Deep cards. Here are some examples of cards with Deep.
New Keyword - Plunder
A card triggers its plunder ability when played if you damaged the enemy Nexus this round.
This is the big mechanic of Bilgewater. We'll see many decks featuring the region with cards that have Plunder or enable Plunder through small amounts of damage to the enemy Nexus. Here are some examples of cards with Plunder.
New Keyword - Scout
The first time only Scout units attack each round, ready your attack.
Cards with Scout can allow you to attack twice in a turn. Your opponent will have to decide if they want to take the damage to better prepare for a larger attack coming up, or getting rid of your Scout units. We can level up Miss Fortune quite quickly with this! Here are some examples of cards with Scout.
New Keyword - Toss
Obliterate X non-champion cards from the bottom of your deck.
Toss is a keyword that works very well with the one that was previously covered, Deep. This helps us mill our own deck while keeping our Champion cards save. The greatest part about it is we're getting rid of cards from the bottom of our deck which weren't likely to be drawn anyway so they won't be missed. Here are some example cards with Toss.
New Keyword - Vulnerable
The enemy can challenge this unit, forcing it to block.
Vulnerable is the last keyword added to Runeterra in the Rising Tides set. This is a reverse of the existing keyword, Challenger, and is useful for letting your units get through to enable Plunder, but also to drag priority targets into combat. Here are some example cards with Vulnerable.
Comments
At the risk of sounding pedantic: there's at least one more new keyword, although I haven't seen any official announcement or even what its called. It's whatever is associated with that white 'x' icon on Powder Keg. I suspect it's "Can't Attack"--it looks like a sword with a strike through it, which is somewhat parallel to the existing "Can't Block" icon--but alternatively it might also have something to do with the kegs' stacking nature. And I can't find anything comparable on any of the existing cards.
it's called "Immobile" they have already revealed all the rest of the 120 set, you can see them on mobalytics
It's Immobile, there will be another collectible card with it as well. But Riot didn't count that as a new keyword in patch notes either.
I assume it might be be can't attack, possibly to ensure that Kegs don't get abused in swarming decks one way or another.
That's "Can't Attack" and "Can't Block" I believe. Which means they don't want powder kegs getting buffed and used to attack or block stuff. Considering it has vulnerable though, I'm guess that means it can still be actively destroyed by an opponent who pulls it into combat, but it can't be used as a cheap blocker like Caustic Cask.
Attune seems lazy. It's just the Piltover 2-drop repackaged. Unless there's some card that specifically synergizes with Attune it's a pointless addition.
I dont agree with that. While it might seem lazy, small chips of spell mana gain is really nice, you dont have to skip a turn to play a minion to save up that "what-if" spare mana or to prepare for a combo. And most Attune minions will end up being really cost efficient, if you add that up. I think it will see a lot of play.
I agree that it's a lazy addition of Eager Apprentice, it seems that it is going to encourage small scale spells or miracle style decks though, which I'm hesitant about as I absolutely HATED miracle rogue from Hearthstone, so I hope to god something like that doesn't occur in LoR.
would prefer that every day over "while damaged" or "cannot be targeted by spells or hero powers"
Well the point of "while damaged" was because there are so many self-damage interactions that aren'T actually Enrage that it was pointless to have a specific keyword that only covers half the cards of the intended archetype
Evasive is just stupid though. Just make it a keyword already, nothing would change
