Discussion
The upcoming card change patch seems quite welcome as things are becoming seemingly stale in the competitive scene. The top 4 picks of Rogue, Demon Hunter, Warlock, and Priest were the same in all regions. With each of these classes brought by 12-16 players in each region, it was a weekend of more-or-less mirror lineups all around. Warrior continued to see no play whatsoever whereas Paladin was brought by Fled in Americas, first in a long time.
In APAC, the bottom two point earners had the week they needed as both che0nsu and AlanC86 reached the final. As AlanC86 aggro-ed to 3-0 victory, he gained a one-point cushion to the danger zone whereas che0nsu is out of the direct relegation spots only by tiebreakers.
In Europe, the biggest point hauls went to players already on the top half of the table. Bunnyhoppor had already won the Gold Team Tournament with his Liquid teammates Fr0zen and DeadDraw before Sunday's GM stream but he was not able to beat the lightning-fast xBlyzes who cruised through his Sunday matches with a 6-0 record.
In Americas, Fled was the only Paladin player as well as one of the few not bringing Warlock or Rogue, and the strategy carried him all the way to semifinals where he lost 3-0 to McBanterFace. The final was (yet another) mirror lineup showdown where languagehacker was eventually able to clutch the 3-2 victory, putting him and McBanterFace tied at 11 points (alongside the people's champion Fled), all three well and truly safe from relegations.
The winners of Week 5.
Lastly, let's take another glimpse at the points standings. We also got two new retirement announcements from APAC this week, which means that at least four players will be retiring after this season.
