Battlegrounds Brawl:
We’re also celebrating the upcoming launch of Battlegrounds with a special event that starts today – welcome to the Battlegrounds Brawl! Join up with your favorite streamers in a quest for tavern glory while earning Card Packs along the way. The event will conclude on Thursday, November 21 with an epic finale—a $200,000 Battlegrounds tournament live on the Inn-vitational stage! We’re splitting this event into three phases:
Choose Your Team
First things first, you’ll need to pick a team! Our sixteen fearsome competitors are split across four teams: Rust Buckets, Mega Fins, Rabid Rangers, and Doom Bringers. Only one team can get your pledge, though, so choose carefully! Declare your team allegiance by November 12 and you’ll receive a Descent of Dragons Card Pack for participating. Ready to pick a team? Head on over to the Battlegrounds Brawl event page.
Now that you’ve chosen a team, it’s time to join the fight! From November 12 – 19, your wins in Battlegrounds (4th place or better) will also count towards the total wins of the team you’ve pledged to – if a team reaches 250,000 total wins by the end of this phase, they’ll unlock an additional $25,000 guaranteed prizing! You can follow your team’s progress with daily total win updates from the @PlayHearthstone Twitter.
Additionally, Legendary Quests to play Battlegrounds will be available during this period, rewarding one Card Pack from every Year of the Dragon expansion! To close out the event, all four teams will gather to compete in our very first Battlegrounds competition! The format will run through ten rounds of play, each with two games happening simultaneously. The broadcast will kick-off at 10 a.m. PT, November 21, on Twitch.tv/PlayHearthstone. You’ll also be able to follow the perspective of any competitor through their personal stream. Mark your calendars and get ready to cheer on your team – if they win, you’ll receive an additional Descent of Dragons Card Pack!
Early Access Twitch Drops
Lastly, from 10 a.m. PT November 5 until 11 p.m. PT November 11, watch any Twitch stream under the Hearthstone category for a chance to receive Battlegrounds Early Access as a Twitch Drop! To be eligible, you’ll need to link your Twitch.tv and Blizzard Battle.net account. Here’s how:
- Log in or create an account on Twitch.tv.
- Navigate to the Settings menu by clicking your account name in the top-right corner of the home screen.
- Navigate to the Connections tab of the Settings menu.
- Find the Battle.net section, then follow the instructions after selecting a region and clicking Connect.

Hm did anyone else NOT get the pack for participating? :/
So, having played early access battlegrounds, I wanted to share my thoughts. While overall a fun mode, there isn't enough dimensions to keep most players entrained past initial week in my opinion. Already in 1 day of playing I started seeing the same end-game patterns over and over. The main end-game strategies are very repetitive (I really hope the complexity of this mode increases to keep it enjoyable long-term):
1. Go all in on beasts: Get Mama Bear and beasts that spawn more beasts (i.e. Rat Pack) and a cleaver or 2 (Cave Hydra)
2: Go all in on mechs: Get Junkbot and mechs that spawn more mechs (magnetize them) and a cleaver or 2 (Foe Reaper 4000), sound familiar?
3: Go all in on demons: Get Wrathweaver and rotate a bunch of demons between rounds to buff him, eventually get Annihilan Battlemaster with ~200 health (optionally get Malganis temporarily so Wrathweaver stops hurting you)
4: Go all in on murlocs: Try to discover poison + divine shield from Gentle Megasaur for every minion on board, or give it manually to your murlocs through other battlecries.
Oh, and of course, regardless of which of the only 4 endgame strategies you pick, buff/max out your Nightmare Amalgam, giving it a ton of health, poison, divine shield, etc. and magnetizing anything you come in contact with.
Thoughts on the teams:
Team Doom Bringers (Zalae, Firebat, Asmodai, Surrender)
If they put Regis Killbin and Disguised Toast in place of the latter two, this would be the ultimate slackers on the couch, taking it easy Hearthstone team.
Team Rabid Rangers (xChocoBars, Disguised Toast, Regis Killibin, Solary)
We're just tuning in for Toast (hey, look who's back) and Regis. Or cute Asian woman.
Team Mega Fins (Trump, Dog, Hafu, RDU)
A pair of kings, a queen, and a joker.
Team Rust Buckets (Thijs, Brian Kibler, Amaz, Kolento)
Should be renamed Team Overconfidence. We're just tuning in for the freakouts.
No kripp, damn. He was usually top 1 or 2 during the blizzcon demo. Anyone watch the other players and see how they fared?
There is a leaderboard with many familiar names on high placements.

Kripp (LettuceKing) still seems to be doing best as of when I post this. But looking good for my chosen team Mega Fins with both dog and RDU doing well it seems.
Today Kripp is establishing himself as the Final Boss of Hearthstone Battlegrounds.
Tourney would be more fun to watch him in it.
I thought toast stopped playing hs? Anyway I voted for his team even though xchoco may not be the best player. I probably should have voted for surrenders team.
He did, but he has made a return to the game for Battlegrounds, at least while its still hot stuff.
IDK about you guys but I'm picking mega fins just for the name because I have no clue of who these people are!
Toast is in a team. Whit!?
as the same with Grand Master drops, only some countries will get them, mine is excluded so I wont bother
Now the real question; who to vote for?
Doom bringers FTW!
Of course Mega fin- Dog, Trump AND RDU in one team....whohooo
how do you mention everyone on the team but not Hafu is beyond me :]
Same!
oh, I voted for the other team.
