Oh, additional note I forgot to mention in my original post - comparisons to Dragon Soul are honestly pretty useless. That was a weapon in a meta that saw practically every deck running weapon removal, in a deck that ran no other weapons, in a class that was neither tempo-oriented nor board-centric at the time.
Dragon Soul was doomed to fail by the class- and meta-context long before analysis of the card itself could even begin. That is not true of Chenvaala.
This guy Is gonna make cyclone mages way too dangerous.
People are a little too down on this card I feel. Don't get me wrong, it's not an incredible card - but it's solid. Probably shouldn't be legendary, but still.
A major problem with Cyclone decks lately (Flamewaker shenanigans notwithstanding) is they have a nasty tendency to play 10 cards in a turn and not really accomplish much. This is a force multiplier card - those 10 cards can actually get something meaningful done when this is in play.
Of course, the major downside of the card is the same - it's a force MULTIPLIER, meaning you're going to need it alongside the plays you were making in the first place. Given mana is the major limiting factor of a Cyclone turn, you're kinda relying on it sticking to actually do much - you can play it before a combo, sure, but that's 3 mana spent on things that aren't spells, making your turn weaker before the 5/5s come in.
Overall, it's a medium card I feel. It's not going to make Cyclone strong, but if people are playing Cyclone, they'll play this.
In HS, 3 mana minion with 2/5 stats usually not good enough to see play in game. Even if the effect is good ( e.g: Lifeweaver, Mindbreaker). But 4 mana minion with the same stat, (sometimes) makes a staple in some deck (Militia Commander, Bone Wraith, Tundra Rhino, Quartermaster, Corridor Creeper) ..
*generates full board*
*Warrior plays brawl*
Definitely not the card I was hoping for. More bs Cyclone support
If you play Elemental Evocation to play this, does that spell already count to one of the three spells? I imagine yes, that is a solid play. Get this out for 1 mana and only need to play two cheap spells (Ray of Frost x2?) to trigger it.
I seriously doubt it would. I'm pretty sure it works exactly like the priest legendary weapon.
quest and mana cyclone suport. really liked this one. also good stats for early drop
Avalanche anagram. Smart!
Nice catch. Didn't notice that lol.
Good support for quest and Mana Cyclone shenanigans. Unlike Dragon Soul, which was a weapon that did nothing on its own and could be removed very easily before you could make good use of it, this is a minion with a solid body for contesting early boards and has an elemental tag attached to it which is good with Elemental Evocation. It slots in those decks perfectly. Will it be successful? Maybe, but it seems too fair for an expansion with such a power level. It may end up being overlooked just because everything else is crazy stronger.
Exactly, this card is too fair. One 5/5 is good but not insane, 2 5/5‘s is a late game play that requires preparation and it’s still not overwhelming.
I would prefere Luna in this type of deck every time! Even Khatgar is arguably better.
Thank god I love legendaries that help me run cheap spells.
and even better because of the synergy with my favorite card from the Year of the Raven - Banana Buffoon
Looks good to me, though I haven't been playing very much lately. It has solid stats so when you play it as a late game board populating engine, it's got a few 5/5s alongside it to deal with. Elemental synergy and a pretty good late game wincon in a cyclone style deck.
Hello, Mana Cyclone-Mage!
... Please, no.
This can’t even be compared to dragon soul... mage spells are just better and mage has stuff like elemental evocation. Also this game is about tempo and playing a do nothing weapon on three was useless this actually has great stats that can deal with early board
Not a card that will help pull mage out of the dumpster.
dragon soul wasn't really played, but this is in a class that casts spells more easily, but it can be killed more easily...
I’m not sold at all by this card. Remember that Priest got same exact effect but on a weapon (Dragon Soul), which is much more difficult to remove if you don’t run a specific tech option with Shadow Visions, Lyra the Sunshard and Radiant Elemental in the same rotation, but never saw competitive play.
therefore, I expect this card to see fringe experimentation but not much competitive play.
