Swedish company Embracer Group, known for buying a large amount of game studios in a short amount of time, has cancelled an unannounced Deus Ex game, anonymous sources told Jason Schreier via Bloomberg. The game was set to enter production later this year at Eidos Montreal, but the studio will now focus on an original franchise. This cancelation also comes with an undisclosed number of layoffs at Eidos.

This is the third in a wave of layoffs at large companies that happened in the past 7 days. The first was at Riot last Monday, when 530 roles were axed globally, or 11% or their workforce, across most of their project, with Legends of Runeterra probably hit the hardest. They will also be cancelling the Riot Forge initiative, which saw small developers create single-player games set in the Runeterra universe.

Finally, Microsoft laid off about 1900 people on Thursday, most of them at Blizzard, as well as cancelling a survival game that has been in development for several years. Blizzard president, Mike Ybarra, also left the company, and will be replaced by former Call of Duty executive Johanna Faries.
