Microsoft to Publish Toys for Bob's Next Game Release

Published 1 year, 6 months ago by

Toys for Bob, the studio behind the famous Skylanders series and recent additions to Crash and Spyro has announced Microsoft will be publishing its next title.

Just a few months ago, in a now unpublished blog post, the studio announced that it has split from Activision, after joining the company in 2005; This was ahead of Activision Blizzard being acquired by Microsoft. In their blog, they stated they were exploring a partnership with Microsoft and that they were excited to work on new stories, new characters, and new gameplay experiences.

Nothing has yet been publicly announced for the upcoming Toys for Bob title, though it does make one wonder if having Microsoft on board will give them access to any particular IP. As we stated in our post with the previous announcement, it would be quite awesome to see Banjo-Kazooie make a true return - there is certainly room for new characters and innovative gameplay in that universe.

We're excited to announce that we'll be partnering with @Xbox to publish our next new game. We're still very early in development, so you might not hear from us for a bit - but know that we're working hard on an experience we're so sooo inspired about! Can't wait to share more

While we're on the subject of Toys for Bob, one has to wonder what is going on with their official website. It has recently been updated to include a new logo titled "tfb_logovector_tikimask-purple", though they are utilizing their old logo in today's announcement. The new logo feels like its straight out of Crash Bandicoot and the purple makes us think Spyro - is it just a nod to the recent past or is there more to it?

According to the Wayback Machine, the earliest they changed their website over to the new logo was on May 15, just over 2 weeks ago. Prior to that, the old website was still accessible on April 25 but come May 1, a Godaddy domain parking page was shown instead.

On the current iteration of the Toys for Bob website, no previous content is available, so all their old blog posts are gone. Maybe it was a contractual thing with Activision or maybe they've got some really big plans for their site. Whatever it is, we're digging the tiki mask and have hopes it represents Mumbo Jumbo.

We wish Toys for Bob the best and can't wait to see what worlds they create.
