Quote From The Game Awards Are DLCs, Expansion Packs, And Remakes/Remasters Eligible?
The Game Awards aims to recognize the best creative and technical work each year, irrespective of the format of that content’s release. Expansion packs, new game seasons, DLCs, remakes and remasters are eligible in all categories, if the jury deems the new creative and technical work to be worthy of a nomination. Factors such as the newness of the content and its price/value should be taken into consideration.

What do you think of the list? Are you upset that a DLC for Elden Ring was included in the running for Game of the Year? Let us know in the comments below!
Comments
Not really: given its size, it is almost a game on its own.
I can't get upset about Final Fantasy VII Rebirth either, since while it is a remake, it changes things up quite a bit, so it's not just the same game in a new coat of paint. However, while Silent Hill 2 got a generally positive reception, that game did lean very heavily on the original, which is a good thing in this case, but it raises the question of how much it really is a 2024 game.
What I am upset about is "Most Anticipated Game", because I don't think we should be celebrating hype. Hype leads to pre-orders, which reduce the punishment for games launching in a broken state. It's also a lot easier to generate hype for a sequel compared to something new. So hype helps sustain the games industry's bad habits.
I'm surprised I don't see Satisfactory (1.0 this year) and the Factorio DLC on the list: those were pretty big releases and very well received.
At least my personal favorite, Animal Well, is on the list. I think that's the game from 2024 that I'll remember most.
Interesting to see Dragon Age didn't make the cut in the Best RPG category. Opinions were quite mixed about that game, but I would have expected it to at least get nominated.
Sorry but this is just bulshit. "given its size, it is almost a game on its own." This sentence is used a lot, used for Witcher dlcs before and it can't be a reasoning. It is still a dlc.
and also, crap award event. You don't have to be a genius to see this is rigged and biased.
By size I don't mean just volume: Erdtree has its own map, its own story lines, enemies, NPCs, progression. Really the only thing that firmly connects it to the main game is that you can bring in your existing player character. If they had released it as a standalone game, it wouldn't have been very different from its DLC form, I think.
It's very much a show by and for the games industry. There can be quite a gap between what the industry thinks and what players think, especially this year where some big budget games flopped hard. Despite what it is, I still think it's fun starting point for discussion.
it is nowhere even near discussion. It is a shitshow that tries to make all communities happy with including every admiral ship of that community. Let's make LGBT happy, let's make SJW communities happy, let's make X happy like all of the other worldwide shitshows.
How would you explain me that the list includes Baldur's Gate 3 for community support ? " It is mod support " you will say which should have been implemented far far before and they implemented it after game's popularity started to decrase "purposefully" and after fans cried about it. Don't get me wrong, i love Larian, Divinity: Original sin 1&2 is still on my top 1 but BG3 is there "again" just because of LGBT not for community support. Bringing a feature you developed far before and when the time is right isn't a good community support.
Besides, explain me how is even Manor Lords in the list which is a still EARLY ACCESS state wit 0.8.0.0.2 patch number.
how can even Helldivers 2 be on the support list after that PSN shitshow ? It is still unavailable on a lot of countriess if i recall correct.
How can Fortnite be in the ongoing list all the time ?
How can those remakes be game of the year, best action game of the year, best x of the year although they have been made decades ago ? Those remakes only deserves being "community support" nominees at best if they don't want to make a "best remake of the year" award.
I can say even more if i dig more to the titles that i barely hear. I am %100 sure there are other reasonings behind them instead of they are being best.
I am not saying that i didn't enjoy these games or they are just bad games. I am just saying this awards means nothing besides their advertising as "game of the year edition" etc. which is why this is biased and rigged.
This is not a show for game industry, it is a marketing show with arranged companies and creators.
Only Stalker 2 is not being between the most anticipated games nominees says it all but yeah, let's give dlcs and remakes and early access games full game rewards.
These events are just there to herd people to a direction.
