In the Spring of this year, something is happening that if you told PlayStation or Xbox fans even so much as one week ago, they would've unanimously told you that you're absolutely insane and it would never happen.
Nonetheless, we now have confirmation that the seemingly "would never happen" is now going to happen. Forza Horizon 5 Will Be Available on PlayStation 5.
Brief History
In 2005, Turn 10 Studios developed Forza Motorsport for the original Xbox in what was intended to be the console's own game to compete with Gran Turismo on the PlayStation, and just like its rival franchise, quickly became a smash hit and would establish itself as a part of the Xbox experience. This success was only propelled further with Forza Motorsports 2, 3, and 4 released on the Xbox 360 in 2007, 2009, and 2011 respectively.
In 2012, the first Forza Horizon game was developed by Playground Games and released on the Xbox 360, as the start of a spin-off series where you would take the same cars out on open worlds as part of a racing festival. This too, would become its own series with the second, third, and fourth games released in 2014, 2016, and 2018 respectively.
In 2016, an extremely significant event happened for Forza fans: Forza games being playable on devices other than the Xbox. Forza Motorsport 6 and Forza Horizon 3 were both released for the Xbox One and Windows. While it was a bit exciting (and to some people, perhaps a bit disturbing) that Forza would no longer be exclusive to the Xbox, it would stay strictly a property of Microsoft. The Forza franchise in general was heralded as a reason to be a Microsoft customer and was a selling point for the Xbox. Inevitably, this would spark a rivalry between fans of Gran Turismo and Forza Motorsport over debating which franchise is better. In response, I say, why aren't we allowed to just enjoy both franchises?
Back to the Present
Forza being playable on PlayStation 5 is a pretty huge deal because it sparks the end of one chapter of console history and the beginning of another one. In all fairness, it is a Horizon game and not a Motorsport game, which are both very different types of racing games. Gran Turismo 7 and Forza Horizon 5 won't be competitors to each other on the same console as much as they will be two racing games that cover two different bases. Still, the thought of Forza on the PlayStation is not only pretty wild, but it also raises a lot of other implications. Does this mean that Gran Turismo 7 comes to the Series X, or that either game comes to the Switch 2? I'd say both of these are vastly unlikely, but I would've said the same thing about Forza being on the PlayStation, so who can say for sure? This also opens the door for future Forza Horizon games being released for PlayStation consoles.
Forza Horizon 5 can currently be wishlisted on the PlayStation 5.
