If you thought World of Warcraft: The War Within was a game-changer, then you’ve only scratched the surface. With WoW ranking among the highest-grossing video game franchises—amassing over $9.23 billion as of 2017—it’s no surprise that the game developers, Blizzard, keep pushing the boundaries of adventure.
So, on February 12, 2025, Blizzard unveiled the release date for Patch 11.1: Undermine(d) and its season, and it’s set to shake up Azeroth once again. This time, players are headed straight into the heart of goblin ingenuity—their bustling capital city.
With the release date set at February 25, players are eager to get a sneak peek into what to expect. To give a better view, we are going to take a look at everything to expect with the new release.
What’s New in Patch 11.1?
In this new patch that’s about to be released, players would get to take a peek into enemy territories and get swayed by its flair. According to the game designers, the goblin city is expected to be eye-catching with its unique technology and dazzling design. While players are at Undermine—the goblin city, they would get to meet up with four major goblin cartels who are trying to control the territory. Players are left with the choice to join up with any of the cartels, and undertake unique storylines and quests.
One feature that has players hyped is the introduction of a new in-game tech, the DRIVE (Dynamic Revolutionary Improvements to Vehicular Experiences) system. Apparently, this feature is expected to allow players customize their ground vehicle. So you can expect a whole lot of speed, drifting and control while playing and this is customizable based on the player's preference.
New Dungeon & Raid
The new World of Warcraft Patch 11.1–Undermined is also said to introduce two new PvE variants. These new variants: the "Operation: Floodgate" dungeon and the Liberation of Undermine raid are set to take players to a whole new level of gameplay. So what should players expect with this new update?
What about loot boxes?
As it stands, there is no official information about the inclusion of loot boxes in the new patch update. But as speculations continue to spread in forums and chat groups about possible updates in March-April, only time will tell.
By the way, what are the mechanics of loot boxes and how would it work? The way the lootboxes will work can be compared to that of a full-fledged casino. However, players stand to enjoy a much more honest win in a casino than with a loot box. For example, a player in the igaming niche can find honest guides to choosing new casinos online, and find out what bonuses will be available to him. In lootboxes, the drop system is more random, meaning that the player cannot clearly weigh all the risks as they do in online casinos.
Operation: Floodgate Dungeon
The Operation: Floodgate Dungeon is a 5-player dungeon mode which is set within the Ringing Deeps. This mode puts the player in a position where they are expected to defend a critical dam that regulates the waterways of Undermine from possible sabotage. The gameplay also leads into four unique encounters against bosses like:
- Big MOMMA
- Swampface
- Geezle Gigazap
- The Demolition Duo
To make it more interesting, players get to choose any of the difficulty levels like, Heroic, Mythic and Mythic+ with varying degrees of rewards and challenges.
Mythic+ Rotation & PvP Updates
With the release of the Patch 11.1 Undermine(d), World of Warcraft, players get to experience a new Mythic+ season. This new inclusion allows players to rotate and play between 5 dungeons from the War Within expansion and 3 from previous expansions. So, they can choose from these options:
- Operation: Floodgate
- Cinderbrew Meadery
- Darkflame Cleft
- Priory of the Sacred Flame
- The Rookery
- The Motherlode
- Mechagon Workshop
- Theatre of Pain
Players have plenty to be excited about with this new release. As British film director Duncan Jones put it,” Warcraft by its very nature is epic in scale, ” and this patch is no exception as it is packed with fresh content and challenges.
This update also introduces a special reward to players who achieve a Mythic+ rating of 2000 in Season 2. Once they achieve that rating, they get to unlock the exclusive Crimson Shreddertank mount.
Liberation of Undermine Raid

While players enjoy the February 25 launch of the Patch 11.1, they are also likely looking forward to the release of Liberation of Undermine. This raid which is set to be released on March 4 is set to be much more extensive.
This release is expected to be an 8-boss raid throughout the city. The raid would end with players getting to face Jastor Gallywix and his mech. The aim of this challenge is for players to outmaneuver Jastor and destroy his mech defenses. Players would be able to take on this raid in the following difficulty:
- Story Mode
- Raid Finder
- Heroic
- Mythic
- Normal
Conclusion
The War Within, Patch 11.1: Undermine(d) is set to challenge players like never before as it promises to deliver a fresh and immersive experience. Just like game developer John Carmack once said, “I think ‘World of Warcraft’ shows that people still like a good fantasy hack-and-slash game.”
And that’s what this update builds, as it introduces intense raids, fierce rivalries, and brand-new dungeons for players to conquer.
