Big news for fans of high-end Virtual Reality set-up! Bigscreen just announced the Beyond 2, their successor to their super-light VR headset. In case you're not familiar, the Bigscreen Beyond was by far the smallest and lightest VR headset on the market, at just 127 grams. For reference, the PlaySstation VR 2 is 560 grams grams, while the Meta Quest 3 is 515 grams.

The Beyond 2 is even lighter, at 107 grams. The resolution of the screen is the same as before, 2560x2560 pixels per eye, which is bigger than both the PSVR2 (2000 x 2040) and the Meta Quest 3 (2064x2208). The new headset will also include eye-tracking, as well as a 116 degree diagonal field of view. That's larger than both the PSVR2 and Quest 3, which both sit at 110, but those are on the vertical, so the Beyond 2 might be slightly smaller.

The biggest change is the face cushion. The original Beyond required you to use a modern iPhone to do a 3D face scan and send it to them so they can create a specialized face cushion for your face. While that option is still available, you can now also get a universal cushion so you can share the Beyond with someone else.

Now for the bad news. First up, this is just the headset, you'll need to buy controllers and trackers separately. It also uses outside-in tracking, unlike the PSVR2 and Quest 3. While this does mean more accurate tracking, it also means they add to the cost, as you'll need to get base stations for tracking.

And that cost is not cheap to start with. The headset is 1019 USD alone, and you'll need to pay and extra 200 USD for eye-tracking. If you were to go with Valve's VR accessories, it'll be 280 USD for the controllers, and 150 for a base station, and you'll need at least two of these. That's at least 1599 USD, without eye-tracking.

Overall, this looks to be a great offering for high-end enthusiasts. That said, Valve is rumored to release a new VR headset this year in the same price range, so better to wait for that. If you're looking for an entry-level model that won't require a spare kidney, the PSVR2 and Meta Quest 3/3S are your best options.
