Great news (kinda) for fans of classic Sega games! 9 titles, two of which are compilation of trilogies, may soon be removed from the Android and iOS stores (that's not the good news). As such, Sega is giving them away for free (that's the good news). All you have to do is install them on your device, and they'll be yours to play forever. Theoretically, they might not be obtainable once they get deleted, so don't uninstall them.
Sega hasn't made an official statement on the matter, but the affected games will give you a pop-up message saying support for them is being dropped. Other games, like Sonic the Hedgehog 2, don't give this warning and you still need to pay for them (or play with ads), so it doesn't look like support for these is being dropped. Here's the pop-up from Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode II:

The "More Info" button takes you to the main Sega page
Here's a list of all the games affected (if you find another one, let us know):
- Crazy Taxi Classic Android | iOS
- Golden Axe Classics (Golden Axe I, II, and III) Android | iOS
- Shining Force Classics (Shining Force I, II, and Shining in the Darkness) Android | iOS
- Sonic CD Classic Android | iOS
- Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Ep. II Android | iOS
- Streets of Rage Classic Android | iOS
- Streets of Rage 2 Classic Android | iOS
- Super Monkey Ball: Sakura Ed. Android | iOS
- Virtua Tennis Challenge Android | iOS
If you're not a fan of touch control, most of those should support an external controller, but how good the implementation is might vary. For instance, for Sonic 4, the up and down directions are reversed on the stick (but not the d-pad). Still, free is free, and those are some good classic Sega titles.
Do any of the titles here catch your eyes? Or do you prefer more modern implementations? Let us know in the comments below!
