THQ Nordic Presentation Recap - New SpongeBob Game, Titan Quest II and Gothic 1 Remake News, and More

Published 4 months ago by (Updated 4 months ago)

THQ Nordic just held its annual digital presentation, and it held some interesting surprises. There were 13 announcements in total, including 4 new games, 4 classics heading to modern platforms, and 8 updates to existing games. As is tradition, the end of the presentation also mentioned there were 28 games in development at THQ Nordic, 15 of which are unannounced. But enough chit-chat, let's get into the games!

SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tide

The presentation started with the announcement of a new SpongeBob game, with singer and actor David Hasslehof singing us a sort of sea shanty over the trailer. The new game will allow you to swap between Spongebob and Patrick at will, and we saw a fairly varied selection of stages and powers. Story-wise, it seems to focus on King Neptune being at odds with The Flying Dutchman. The game is available for pre-order now (with bonus skins that see the two characters being butt-naked) and will release on November 18th.

Wreckreation

Announced a few years ago, Wreckreation is a spin-off of the Wreckfest series that sees you race across an open-world with destructible terrain, and also features a track editor to build the wacky roads of your dream. While the game has no release date, it's good to at least know it hasn't been canceled.

Tides of Tomorrow

Announced during Sony's Summer Game Fest presentation, Tides of Tomorrow features asynchronous multiplayer where your choices impact other players. We now got a more in-depth look at the game, with the devs explaining the thought process behind the game. It has a release date of October 24th.

Wreckfest 2

While Wreckcreation might be a ways off, Wreckfest 2 seems to be a bit closer. It features destructible vehicles like the first game, with rough races you can participate in. The game is currently available in Early Access on Steam, with a 20% discount until August 4th.

Sacred 2 Remsatered

The Action RPG classic is getting a Remaster, with all the usual updates you could expect, like better graphics and UI, and refined gameplay. No release date was given, but you can get the original Sacred 2 Gold on Steam right now for 75% off until August 8th.

The Eternal Life of Goldman

A 2D Metroidvania that was announced a while back, but we're seeing more of now. The game has some gorgeous hand-drawn art, but the story and setting seem to be quite a bit darker than it lets on. Sadly, no release date was given.

Titan Quest II

A sequel to the classic Greek-inspired Diablo-like that THQ Nordic has supported until very recently (the original Titan Quest came out in 2006, and it had 4 expansions, with the latest being from 2021). The sequel looks to be improving upon the original in many ways, as sequels tend to do. While no release date was given, the game was just launched into Early Access on Steam, and is on a 20% sale for 23.99 until August 4th, with the first game and its expansions also being heavily discounted at the moment.

The Guild: Europa 1410

While stated to be inspired by, rather than being a direct sequel to 2002's Europa 1400: The Guild, this game seems to follow the same formula: Build a dynasty in medieval Europe, where you can choose from a variety of jobs and stories to follow. Sadly, no release date was given.

Gothic Remake

A remake of the classic 2001 RPG that was announced a while back, but which now shows proper gameplay. The game is slated to release in 2026, with a demo available now.

Gothic Classic + Gothic II Complete Classic + Gothic 3 Classic

All 3 games in the Gothic series will be coming to Xbox and PlayStation next year, though no concrete date was offered. If you're on PC, the entire trilogy is currently 75% off, both the individual games and as a bundle.

Ranimal

A horror game from the developers of the first two Little Nightmares games. The trailer shows a lot of disturbing imagery, and really captures the feeling of the two aformentioned games. release slated for the first quarter of 2026.

A Collector's Edition will also be available, giving you the game, a season pass, an art book, and a lot of other physical goodies, like the statue of a disemboweled pig.

Fatekeeper

A first-person RPG with a fairly gritty world. The combat seems fun and responsive, with the most stand-out abilities being Force-like powers for the protagonist. No release date was given, but the game will enter Early Access in Winter.

Darksiders IIII

Last, but certainly not least, is the long-awaited announcement of Darksiders 4. By whom? BY ME! And a small dedicated fan base, but mostly ME! Sadly, it looks like Strife won't be getting his own game, but at the very least the story will finally progress after almost 15 years since the original's release. Only a teaser with no gameplay or even a hint of the story, but at least it's real!
