Everything From the September 12th Nintendo Direct

Published 2 months, 3 weeks ago by (Updated 1 month, 1 week ago)

Earlier this morning, we had a Nintendo Direct that came with a lot of new content to talk about.

This one is particularly noteworthy because we celebrate Mario's 40th anniversary tomorrow. That's right. Forty years of the Italian plumber and he's still kicking as strong as ever.

Now let's begin with recapping all of the game announcements from the Direct.

Super Mario Galaxy 1 + 2 for Nintendo Switch 1 and 2

Going along with the new Super Mario Galaxy movie, two of the most beloved Mario games of all time gets re-released on the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 in one convenient package on October 2nd 2025. You can also download each game separately on the Nintendo E-Shop. The storybook from the games will also be available as a real-life product, though unfortunately without the extra pages added in this new version.

Mario Tennis Fever

Mario returned to the tennis court for a new fast-packed racket of a time (get it?) in Mario Tennis Fever. With new special rackets and abilities, this one's sure to be a home run! Wait... wrong, sport. There's also an adventure mode where everyone gets transformed into a baby for some reason??? Available on February 12th 2026.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition

Mario's latest platforming adventure gets a new version on the Nintendo Switch 2. This one includes a new multiplayer plaza, Bellabel Park. Play a variety of minigames with your friends to work together to get to the goal. Or you know, fight against each other and lose the friendship if that's more your style. There's also new content, namely in the form of "Bellabel flowers", but we're not quite sure what this entails just yet. The game releases Spring 2026. You can even buy your own talking flower!

Yoshi and the Mysterious Book

A talking book named Mister E. falls from the sky, and Yoshi can access the pages to find the information is in the book. Travel inside to find pages to recover the lost text in this stop-motion-esque style 2D Yoshi platformer that releases Spring 2026.

Storm Lancers

A roguelike with an art style inspired by old anime. Use swords, guns, acrobatics, and magic powers to breeze through lands and take down foes. And it launches today! - Only for the original Switch for some reason, but I would hedge my bets that we're getting a Switch 2 version at some point.

Dinkum

A cozy little game seems to a Minecraft/Animal Crossing hybrid set in the Australian outback. Gather resources and grow crops to turn the wilderness into your home. In typical Australian fashion though, the wilderness is not exactly safe, so you'll need to have some weapons on standby to defend yourself whilst you grow your town. Releases November 5th 2025 as a timed console exclusive.

POPUCOM

A multiplayer-only adventure combining the gameplay of Puyo Puyo and Splatoon. You and a friend will need to coordinate with each other to attack enemies and activate objects with the right color. Available Holiday 2025.

Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream

Create your own Miis to live in this new world for them to live their virtual lives on their own, or with the several different interactions within the game. Place Miis next to each other to watch them form their own bonds. The famed Japanese social franchises launches a new game in Spring 2026.

Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection

The Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection komes to both the Switch and Switch 2, digitally on October 30th 2025, and physically on December 12th 2025. Play through 11 different Mortal Kombat games across konsole and handheld versions with online multiplayer support added, and access interactive documentaries about the history of the series. There's a distinct lack of blood in the trailer, but that may just be for video ratings purposes.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade

Originally released on Windows and PlayStation 5 back in 2021, Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade comes to the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026. Play through a remake of the 2020 Final Fantasy VII Remake, itself a remake of the 1997 Final Fantasy VII. Yes, that's right. It's a remake of a remake. Take on the role of Cloud Strife in the graphically enhanced version of the seventh entry in the long-running action RPG franchise.

Lynked: Banner of the Spark

Half town builder, half dungeon crawler, all here today. Lynked: Banner of the Spark has you growing crops and managing a home for you and your friends, so you can go outside and kick some robot butt with several different weapon classes. And it's available to play today.

Hades II

Hades II is finally approaching its 1.0 release date on September 25th digitally, with a physical release coming November 20th. In this isometric action-RPG dungeon crawler, you play at the princess of the underworld and gain new abilities from the gods of Olympus. We even have a review of it from its early access period.

New Amiibos for Kirby Air Riders

After receiving its own Nintendo Direct a month ago, we've been an update for two new amiibos to be used in Kirby Air Riders, available November 20th at the same time as the game itself. You can mix and match the characters and vehicles on the amiibos and the game will accurately reflect the change and carry over any experience earned on the character. There's even a second Nintendo Direct specific for the game coming soon.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment

Originally announced on April 2nd at the same time as the Switch 2 itself, we finally have a confirmed release date for the game: November 6th 2025. Play as Princess Zelda as she travels back in time and runs into the first king and queen of Hyrule to take down Ganondorf.

Dragon Quest VII Reimagined

After originally being released in 2000 for the original PlayStation, and receiving a remake in 2013, Dragon Quest VII receives another remake available on February 5, 2026. Play the seventh entry in the Dragon Quest series with new modernized graphics on the Switch and Switch 2.

Virtual Boy: Nintendo Classics

Well this is a weird one. You know the Virutal Boy? The system may have been a giant flop, but it's at least good for preservation to have this. In what seems to be a choice made in to cash in on a masochistic form of nostalgia, you'll need the Virtual Boy accessory, which seems entirely unchanged from the original console design. If you don't hate yourself enough already, you can pick up a Virtual Boy for your Switch or Switch 2 to play literally every game that was every released for the dumpster fire.

Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake

The iconic horror franchise for shutterbugs gets a remake of the second game. It's also the first time the game will receive a remade release in North America as the original game's Wii version from 2012 never made it to that part of the world. If you love photography and horror games, the franchise seems like it'll be your style. Pick up a camera and snap pictures of it to fight ghosts. Available early 2026.

Nintendo Switch 2 Editions of One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4, Overcooked 2, Stardew Valley, and Human Fall Flat

One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4, Overcooked 2, Stardew Valley, and Human Fall Flat are set to have Nintendo Switch 2 releases in Fall 2025, Holiday 2025, Fall 2025, and Spring 2026 respectively. Each game coming with their own use of features like mouse controls, camera play, and game share.

PowerWash Simulator 2

It's time to get 2 times as clean as PowerWash Simulator 2 releases Fall of this year, for the Nintendo Switch 2. Grab your water sprayers and start cleaning the place alone or with a friend to have 2 times the cleaning power. Or even better, play four-player co-op and have all of them progress on the campaign at the same time.

Suika Game Planet

It turns out the the Mario Galaxy re-releases are not the only new planet games we have because the famed, fruity Japanese puzzle game is receiving a sequel with a full 360 degrees of places to drop from when it releases Winter of this year.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

After receiving a second trailer back in March of this year, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond has a release date of December 4th 2025 with a new trailer in this direct. Better yet, Samus even gets a motorcycle for this one. A visual retrospective of Metroid Prime 1-3, which appears to be an art book, also looks like it'll be released on October 28th, and new Samus amiibos, including one on the motorcycle, to be released on November 6th, and another one on December 4th alongside the game itself.

Donkey Kong Bananza: DK Island and Emerald Rush

Only a mere two months after the game was released, Donkey Kong Bananza has already received its first DLC, and probably not its last either. In DK Island and Emerald Rush, you will visit Donkey Kong's home of DK Island and play a new minigame called Emerald Rush with the Void Kong. Smash emerald ore to gain perks, which you can use to smash even more emerald ore, and gain even more perks. Refine your route to find the best path to get the best score. And it's out today, as will a free demo of the main game.

Pokemon Pokopia

Have you ever wanted to play Pokemon Minecraft? Well there's already Pixelmon and Cobblemon, but now there's a more official rendition of the concept in the form of Pokemon Pokopia. Play as a Ditto disguised as a human (new Pokemon fan theories incoming) and use powers you learn to build and craft a new world for all the Pokemon to live in. Available 2026.

Pokemon Legends Z-A - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition

Originally announced for the original Switch, Pokemon Legends Z-A is getting a Nintendo Switch 2 edition launching on October 16th 2025, alongside the original Switch version. A new paid DLC, "Mega Dimension" is also now available for pre-orders... before the original game has even been launched.

Danganronpa 2x2

The famed murder mystery franchise returns with a new installment, built on the foundation of Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair. This isn't strictly just a remake of the second game though because it also features a new scenario of the original tale with different victim, culprits, and everything. Return to Jabberwock Island in 2026 for a re-imagining of the events of the second game. It does also include the original second game too.

Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Released in January of this year for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows, Dynasty Warriors: Origins comes to the Nintendo Switch 2 on January 22nd 2026. A large paid DLC is also coming to the game at some point next year to be released on all of the systems at the same time.

Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection

Hopefully the new Pokemon patents don't come after you as you ride, explore, and battle with "Monsties" across the land as it's been threatened with being completely petrified when Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection launches on March 13th 2026.

New Nintendo Switch/2 Versions of Games

Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 version of eight games previously unavailable on one of the systems are coming soon.

Resident Evil: Requiem

The long-awaited ninth installment of the Resident Evil series is officially coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 on February 27th 2026, at the exact same time as all of the other versions. Alongside that are new editions of Resident Evil VII and VIII, both known as the "Gold Edition".

Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave

The famed Fire Emblem series is back for a new game in Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave, releasing in 2026, although unfortunately there's no specific date other than the year.
