OpenRCT2 Version 0.4.30 Has Been Released - New Window Size, Polish Zloty Added to the Game

OpenRCT2 version 0.4.30 has been released. This is a fairly small update, but it contains some welcome additions.

The new wall dragging tool added in the previous update can now be cancelled without closing the scenario window, and the footpath dragging tool from the update before that one can now be disabled in multiplayer group permissions.

Staff Members Now Stand At Railroad Crossings if a Train is Crossing It

A very cool (albeit also very janky) feature in OpenRCT2 is the ability to build Miniature Railroad tracks over path, which is something real life theme parks also do.

This update changes the sprites of staff to use a proper standing animation when they're waiting at an occupied train crossing. Previously, they would freeze their current animation, which would result in them being frozen in a walking state while waiting for the train to pass. For the other three staff types, this generally doesn't look that bad, but it's very noticeable on Entertainers, which have much more animated movement styles and it looked a little bit weird for them to be frozen in time in an awkward standing position while waiting for the train.

Why is this interesting though? Because the standing pose is not new content. All staff members have a standing pose, even in the original games. However, this animation never actually came up anywhere in those games, so this is repurposed content that always appeared within the original game's content, now properly implemented.

The Polish Zloty Has Been Added to the List of Currencies

If you're unaware of this, the original games allow you to change what currency you use when building your parks.

All of the currency options from Pounds down to Euros are vanilla RCT2 content. Everything below that was added to OpenRCT2 in some update.

Unlike real life, exchange rates in RCT2 don't really exist, which was done intentionally for the sake of making everything easier to work with. Every currency is instead either worth the exact same amount as another currency, or is 10 or 100 times as valuable. For example, 10,000 British Pounds is worth exactly the same as 10,000 US Dollars, or 100,000 Chinese Yuan, or 1,000,000 Yen. The Polish Zloty falls into the same category as the Chinese Yuan of being worth 100,000 in this instance (even though in reality, 1 Zloty is worth almost 2 Yuan).

If you're a Polish RCT player, you may find the option to be more immersive to your environment.

Default Game Window Size Has Now Been Increased

Likely a symptom of the fact that the original game is over 25 years old at this point, but the game's original default window size was 640 x 480. On an old monitor, this would look fine, but most people don't use monitors from 25 years ago anymore.

Because of this, the game has updated its default window size to 1280 x 720.

If you tend to play in fullscreen mode, you have not have even noticed this. However, if you play in windowed mode often, this change in window size is definitely something you will notice and appreciate.
