Blizzard Accidentally Makes Arcane Mages Unplayable in Hotfixes

Imagine logging into World of Warcraft Midnight, ready to play a bit of Arcane Mage, only to realize that you no longer have mana. That was the reality today for a short period of time for all Arcane Mages after Blizzard pushed out hotfixes.

We caught wind of this from ArcanePorom, who shared the hilarious photo above where there is zero mana regen ability due to Blizzard's hotfix setting the regen value for Arcane to.. a negative value. Logging in and seeing your mana vanish was definitely not intended.

Blizzard Customer Support tweeted back a few hours later stating the hotfix has been hotfixed.

It looks like we received several reports on this and a hotfix should already have gone out from what I can see. ~V

How something like this makes it into the game? Maybe it's thanks to all those QA testers that were fired in 2024 layoffs across Activison, Blizzard, and Xbox when Blizzard company was under then CEO, Mike Ybarra. Thankfully, Blizzard QA workers recently won a new contract with increased pay, benefits, and protections, which is great to see in an industry that has been feeling quite bleak.

  • Me originally thinking this article would be about the Mage Leyline cards:

    "Yep. I'd believe that."

    • It's funny how much easier it is to just use Hearthstone art for World of Warcraft. WoW just doesn't put out a ton of art like the card game does, I'm so glad they are the same universe.

What's messed up though is trying to find WoW-specific art for a thumbnail, all that pops up is AI created garbage. Some of it was alright, but it does not feel right to use that when other perfectly good art for a thumbnail exists in the WoW universe. This was the first time I had encountered that issue with Warcraft related art and it made me worry about how hard its going to be to find official art in the future.
