With Planet Coaster 2 being a year and a half old, and Jurassic World Evolution 3 being released late last year, a question on the minds of Frontier fans was if we would ever receive a sequel to Planet Zoo.
If you were dying for the acclaimed zoo builder to follow in the footsteps of its coaster builder brother, you can rejoice! Planet Zoo 2 is coming, and it's coming soon! Frontier has even updated the original game with new scenery items to help you wait for the new game.
Notably during the trailer is the emphasis on aquatic exhibit with giant sea animals and an aquarist swimming around. Making aquatic exhibits in the first game is technically possible, but a huge pain in the ass to get everything to work the way you want them too. There's no aquarium-like staff in the first game like there is in the trailer, so I take this part of the trailer to indicate a much smoother way of building water exhibits for all of the sea creatures you want in your zoo.
The announcement post similarly puts its own emphasis on this feature.
The game can be pre-ordered now on Steam, Epic, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Doing this will unlock a bonus content pack regardless of which edition you buy, but the Deluxe Edition will also unlock new animals and sign items.

System Requirements
These specifications are capable of creating a well built up zoo and will run above 30 FPS with Medium settings on the minimum specs, and 30 FPS with High settings on the recommended specs. Keep in mind that a creative simulation management game will require more processing power the more animals and guests are in your zoo and have a smaller impact on your graphics card - this is most notable when changing the graphic settings does not affect the frame rate. When playing on a laptop, consider adding some extra cooling so the CPU can run at higher speeds.

A repeat of Planet Coaster 2?
Before we get too excited, I would like to address what a lot of fans of either Planet Zoo or Planet Coaster are probably thinking.
Planet Coaster 2 had a very rocky launch, and the early review scores reflect that.

Review score graph for Planet Coaster 2 on Steam.
It has gradually started to win people back over after quite a few updates, but it currently sits at a score of 3.7 on Steam, 3.3 on Xbox, and 3.5 on PlayStation, but weirdly, it has a score of 4.5 on Epic.
In theory, a score of 3.7 out of 5 should be pretty good, since it equates to 74%, which is a C in the US (or a B in Canada). However, because the way humans read and rate game scores is not super logical, the average perception of a 3.7 out of 5 for a video game is much worse than a 3.7 out of 5 would be for a movie, a restaurant, or a hotel.
In the much shorter time that Jurassic World Evolution 3 has been out, it has fared quite a bit better in its early review scores.

Perhaps this is a good sign that Planet Zoo 2 may have a better launch, but either way, we'll simply have to wait until it releases.
