Palworld's Official TCG Sells 3.5 Million Packs Before It Even Launches

Palworld's move into physical trading cards is off to an absolutely massive start. According to PCGamesN, the official Palworld TCG has reportedly sold more than 3.5 million booster packs worldwide - and it hasn't even launched yet. The tabletop adaptation is due out on Thursday, July 30.

We've watched Palworld go from viral sensation to legitimate juggernaut, and this feels like the next chapter. The card game looks to be following right in the footsteps of the game's 1.0 release, which we saw hit 855K concurrent players at launch.

What is the Palworld TCG?

Revealed in a news post on the official website, the Palworld TCG is described as a two-player competitive card game designed to deliver a competitive tabletop experience. Here's how it plays out, based on what's been shared so far:

  • Players send out different Pals, each with their own unique characteristics that support different strategies.

  • You'll deploy different structures as you play.

  • Collecting resources is part of the path to victory.

It's a concept that's clearly resonating, because pre-orders are already drying up which is a shame because I personally missed our on them around here.

When does the Palworld TCG release, and what's next?

The first set arrives on Thursday, July 30. And that's just the opening move - a second set, Legends Awaken, is already lined up for release on Friday, October 30.

As you'd expect from Palworld, the game isn't exactly shying away from comparisons to a certain long-running monster-catching series. Despite an ongoing lawsuit between Nintendo and Pocketpair, Palworld doesn't seem shy about its similarities to the Pokemon series - something we've touched on before when developer Pocketpair quietly redesigned some of its most Pokemon-like Pals for the 1.0 launch.

Palworld's official TCG is a two-player competitive card game "designed to deliver a competitive tabletop experience," with players sending out Pals that have "unique characteristics that support different strategies."

Whether the card game ultimately lives up to that 3.5 million level of hype remains to be seen, but right now it certainly looks like a new trading card game could be making its way around the block. Move aside, Pokemon TCG and Lorcana?
