Scribblenauts developer 5TH Cell has announced a brand-new co-op game called Broke Wizards, headed to Steam and the Epic Games Store. Revealed on July 28, 2026 out of Bellevue, WA, it is a 1-6 player romp where you and your wizard roommates slay monsters, go racing, play prop hunt, and take on a pile of other crazy jobs, all to pay rent to a giant Imp Landlord before he eats you.
If you have ever wondered what the folks behind Scribblenauts would do with a whole squad of friends, this is your answer, and honestly, yessss.
What is Broke Wizards?
The pitch is absurd: you are a comically overpowered wizard trying to make rent. Your neighborhood is packed with mysterious places to explore and activities to complete, and combat is only the start. The catch? You are so powerful that the real challenge is eliminating monstrous threats without leveling the entire neighborhood in the process.

You have a week to earn your cash, and come Sunday, rent is due.
What can you actually do?
There is a lot to sink your wand into. Here is what 5TH Cell has detailed so far:
Gig work for wizards - From saving towns to exploring the backrooms to racing magical ravens, the world is full of unique jobs. Some pay well, others are quick and easy. There is even every wizard's favorite snake clone on your phone: Slitherin'!
Combat - These wizards are not just powerful, they are OP. Save towns by killing monsters, but do not wreck the neighborhood by destroying buildings, or you will not get paid.
Vibe out - Rent is not due until the end of the week, so kick back together to watch videos, jam on instruments, play tag, go PvP in the player arena, or set off some fireworks. Sometimes slacking off is the point.
Customize your wizards - Try on new hoodies, unlock new magic boards, and craft hats or wings to equip. You can even find and hatch Pocketdragon eggs to add a buddy.
Earn Magic Keys - Everything you do earns Magic Keys, whether that is exploring, jobs, puzzles, or even paying rent. Collect them all to open the treasure chest holding your deed and be rid of your Imp Landlord for good.
Who is making it?
The game comes from 5TH Cell, an independent studio with a real pedigree for the weird and wonderful.

5TH Cell is an independent game developer that focuses on unique, innovative and creative original games and is best known for the Scribblenauts franchise.
Given how much invention Scribblenauts crammed into a single dictionary's worth of summonable objects, a co-op sandbox about overpowered wizards causing collateral damage feels like a very natural next step for the team.
When and where can you play it?
Broke Wizards is coming to Steam and the Epic Games Store. 5TH Cell has not announced a release date yet, but we will keep you posted as more details drop.
So, who are you rounding up for your wizard household, and how quickly do you think you will accidentally blow up the neighborhood? Let us know in the comments.
