With the rise of generative AI all around the internet and the media, Twitch has become the next brand to implement training for AI. It has now implemented the ability to use your streams to train generative AI. It's ON by default.
Go to your Setting tabs, and you will see a "Training for Generative AI" feature. If you haven't already disabled it, it'll be enabled automatically with the signature purple checkmark. If you don't want your streams to be used to train generative AI, you will need to disable this feature manually. Note that this does not disable your Twitch account for being used for other AI-related features such as streamer recommendations and AutoMod.
Twitch has also put out an FAQ detailing specific information about what the generative AI can and cannot do regarding your streams.

Generative AI content models are AI tools that can help create or synthesize content outputs like text or images when given instructions or prompts because they are also trained on content. When you allow training, that means that your content may be used for future Gen AI model improvements. An example of what happens when you allow your content to be used for training a GenAI content model is that your audio might help refine models that create speech to text, which would help improve captions at Twitch but would also help improve captions across Amazon.
What exactly does opting out cover? What doesn't it cover?
If you opt-out and decide to not allow your channel content to train Generative AI content models, your streams, VODs, clips, stream chats, and pictures and text on your channel will not be used in future training of a model developed by Amazon whose purpose is to generate or synthesize text, audio, images, or video.
Opting-out of training generative AI content models does not opt you out of all AI or machine learning uses at Twitch. For example, Twitch will still run AutoMod, which helps keep our community safe, but does not retain your data and use it to produce content. Twitch may also still use your data to run AI-supported features, like captions, which automatically generate captions for your Clips but does not retain your stream or your clips to train a model that can generate new content.If I opt out, will other AI-powered features like Captions or safety tools still work on my channel?
Yes. There are two important differences between Generative AI content models and AI-supported features at Twitch.
1) AI-supported features at Twitch do not retain your content and then use it to train models that create new videos, images, or text.
2) Twitch users have separate controls for many of the AI-supported features we're releasing. For example, streamers can turn on AutoMod and can adjust captions settings.Why can't I opt-out of all AI uses at Twitch?
Where AI works to help you create content or to help viewers understand your content, you do have controls over how it is used, and you can manage those in your settings.
Other AI works differently. Some of it runs the service itself, the same way our servers and our code do. Some of it keeps the service secure. And some of it, like AutoMod, protects the whole community. Turning those off for one person would weaken safety and security for everyone else on the platform, so they are not individual settings.What channel content (clips, chat, metadata, etc.) is eligible to be used for generative AI training?
Your stream and the stream's chat, your VODs, your Clips, Highlights, and any text or images on your Channel may be used. If you chat on someone else's stream, their opt-out preferences govern if that chat can be used for training.
