Interesting card - also works as some sort of Soft-Taunt i guess because the longer it lives, the more spells you get back.
It´s also a beast so i guess it could work in Hunter or Druid.
Challenge me ... when you're ready to duel a god!
In most cases this isn't great.
Unless you can shuffle very strong spells or special token spells in, adding cards to your deck is not an effect that many decks can afford to run in a meta where fatigue matchups are so rare.
In the case that you use this to shuffle fantastic treasures or quest rewards into your deck, this could be fine, but it still seems like excessive greed.
This post is discussing the wild format.
I can see the case for running this in a Control Highlander deck, where you already wish you could run multiple copies of your best spells and where you have the room for a tech card like this to rack up value and delay fatigue for the control mirrors.
A value card. Which you can use to get many more cheap spells as a highlander/control hunter to use with the new legendary poisonous dude.
And 3/4 is a nice statline for a 3 drop. So, i like it.
“If you have an apple and I have an apple and we exchange these apples then you and I will still each have one apple. But if you have an idea and I have an idea and we exchange these ideas, then each of us will have two ideas.” ― George Bernard Shaw
EU Legend: S52 (ZooHeal Lock); S76 (Highlander Hunter);
Plenty of applications, and its a decent 3/4 for 3.
Its going some places, even if it takes another year, at some point its going to be a core card.
The effect seems fun, until you realize minion dont live very long. The most common use for this minion maybe to combo it with your favorite spell on the same turn.
This is great in some control decks that want to fatigue their opponent, After all you want your opponent to hit fatigue first. Also this is great in highlander decks, because highlander decks love ways to cast spells multiple times. Sure you can get into a problem with card draw, but you could just cast some card draw spells like Arcane Intellect after playing Educated Elekk to get more draw after Educated Elekk dies.
The problem with this card is that it's really susceptible to transform/Silence effects. Silence, Hex, Polymorph, Devolving Missiles, and Zephrys the Great are just a few of many cards that completely shut this card down. Also the way this cards effect works also makes it horrible against cards with a bounce effect like Sap, because Educated Elekk will simply forget what spells you casted in that case. (Similarly to Immortal Prelate losing it's stats after getting hit by Sap.
This card has a lot of potential ways to shut it down, but i feel like that's fair. This card has a very powerful effect, but i feel like opponents might feel bad playing their transform/bounce/Silence cards on it, because they preferably play it on something like Khartut Defender, Convincing Infiltrator, Scrapyard Colossus, Bad Luck Albatross, Teron Gorefiend or Rattlegore.
Also this card debatably doesn't actually have that much synergy with TwinSpell cards like Ray of Frost and Rapid Fire, because this will also shuffle the not-twinspell version into your deck. (if you casted the non-twinspell version while Educated Elekk is on board.) Of course this is good in a more fatigue deck, but still it really depends on the deck if this is a good/bad thing.
RNG is only fun as long as there is a 50/50 chance of getting something really good or trash level of bad. If RNG always results in something good, then it's not fun.
I don't see any deck that would want this (outside of a really grindy control deck that also happens to draw a lot)
I tried having fun once.
It was awful.
A callback card for the Bingo!
It's cool, but I don't know how much you want to shuffle in your deck since it stops other cards from being drawn.
I think this will mostly be played in combo decks that mill themselves and then play this along with a series of specific spells.
[Hearthstone Card (archivist elesyanna) Not Found] was ran.. and nerfed.. sure this needs to die and at least can be silenced but.. damn he counters fatigue quite good.
If control/fatigue decks are a thing this card will be highly considered in those decks.
Valdris Felgorge might compliment this. Warlock also being a class that wants big hand size, along with using spells and minions in Warlock.
The biggest problem with this minion is when it overfills your hand and kills your draw. Warlock has means of discarding cards to help that too. Just not sure what the right blend will be
I play a lot of control decks and this to me is better in a burn mage deck. Where you run a lot of low cost spells, and normally when you play them they're gone and you use cyclone to get new random ones, but with this they're back in your deck. It's an extra fireball, frost bolt, or arcane missiles, with the new spell damage cards decks like this could be a definite thing, and they would need this kind of mechanic for more burn in their deck. Mages aren't going to wait until turn ten to play this and then flamestrike, warriors aren't going to wait until turn eight to play this with brawl.... it's just....really bad that way.
Living like that.
With Potion of Illusion as long as your opponent doesn't silence/steal this card you are immune to fatigue and get infinite value from the other copied cards
Ah, this is a poweful card.
It's stats are good for cost - 3 mana 3/4 is playable even if you're not going to be playing a lot of spells (like in arena).
It's effect is also VERY interesting, essentially a slower, more controllable Lore Walker Cho, since this will shuffle spells you AND your opponent play.
Granted by the time it comes out, removing it with a minion will be pretty easy, so you'll want to protect your elekk as best you can.
If your opponent removes the Elekk with a spell they are just giving you that spell for down the road, but that could also screw with your draw if you're trying to fish for that combo piece or that minion to finish the game.
Excellent card design, soft synergy with Tak Nozwhisker, playable in Arena for stats alone, great card.
I always liked shuffling cards into my deck, so I am pretty excited about the shenanigans you can pull off with this guy.
You can use him in Archaeology Warlock to copy Plot Twist or really anything just so you can expand your deck size and draw more cards. You can also use him in, well, just about any control deck that wants to secure value in the late game.
I don't know if this will see much play outside of Quest Warlock due to the slowness of it, but it will be fun to play around with regardless.
Carrion, my wayward grub.
Love it! This is what I have been begging for for years now. This is what the secret classes want. Instant synergy with Shadowjeweler Hanar, Pack Tactics + Professor Putricide, Glacial Mysteries (finally!), and to some extent Commander Rhyssa with Mysterious Challenger in wild. Some anti-synergy with Bamboozle, but most secrets will work here.
This card is long overdue! 5 stars even if it isn't very good.
What in the world?....... Never thought I'd see the saying "an elephant never forgets" incarnated into a card, lol.
Official Lorekeeper and Spinner of Tavern Tales
I see no current applications for this card, but I love it so much, it might just be my favorite card in the expansion. The flavor and consistency with Augmented Elek is wonderful, and the card is just kinda cute. I might toy around with it in my Rafaam deck just to add deck-refill, but it probably won't make the cut in any decklist.
You could plop this into Dead Man's Hand Warrior to get a bit more free with your... well, Dead Elephant's Hand, I suppose. The secret suggestion is quite interesting, as well, since a few secret classes have ways to draw secrets straight out of your deck.
I'm not sure that ole Babar will find a home in a constructed deck, but I adore this type of strong, niche effect. Every time I home-brew some wretched amalgamation of cards, I come back to all of these ones like Educated Elekk, Meat Wagon, Master Oakheart, etc. and think, 'Weellll, maybe now? Can we? Does it work?' You just want to find a home for them.
Better call Thrall!
This is a pretty weird effect, wasn’t expecting to ever see something like that.
Looks like it should trigger on opponent’s spells too, which could make this a lot better or a lot worse.
Who needs consistency when you could have fun?
I love this card! Such an interesting new card concept, and potentially pretty good! I'll definitely try this one out.
"Be excellent to each other." -Bill and Ted
The effect seems very niche. In general, diluting your deck with cards isn't a good idea as you will be farther away from your power cards.
I don't think there exists is a deck currently (in standard) that can take advantage of this effect.
Possibly could enable some kind of miracle Shaman- it’s worth blasting it with your 1 mana torrent to ensure you get back all the other spells you cast. In fact you get it right back to blast something else!
In Wild this can be used with card draw cards in a Mechathun deck to cycle fast and be sure you have Torrent/L Bolt to finish it off after a Eureka.
The Only Constructed Deck Worth Playing:
https://outof.cards/hearthstone/decks/43506-the-only-constructed-deck-worth-playing
Now Warrior isn't the only class that can cycle and copy its spells to its deck - except Dead Man's Hand does more than just spells, even if, come to think of it .. mostly spells.
Struggle with Heroic Galakrond's Awakening? I got your back :
This lloks fun in Quest Warlock. Not only can you copy Plot Twist, you can also copy some of your removal/healing. And if your opponent plays some decent spells, you can take them and stall out for longer. These spells will also delay fatigue, letting you use your upgraded Hero Power more often and having Plot Twist screw you less often by having reduced chance of drawing your combo piece.
Obviously vulnerable to disruption effects and Soul Mirror, but it puts some mental pressure on the opponent to play carefully, or your opponent's Elekk will get fed.
Also imagine this in non-pure Libram Paladin. Getting even more Librams will feel nutty. Well, every class can theoretically use this card and get a lot of value, but it's probably niche enough that it won't become the next Zilliax. I dare to dream, though.
4/5
"Truth is in the shadows, waiting to be revealed by the light. But light only disperses the shadow." - Me
"If other people shared traits of those considered naive, the world would've become a better place." - Also me
Could be good on occasion, but could more probably dilute your deck with a lot of sub-optimal draws.
What's interesting is, enemy spells count too. I don't have high hopes for this, but it definitely looks fun.
Well it's a day 1 craft for me in golden obviously. The meme potential is just to huge for me to resist Deck ID Not Found
Maybe it's not its time for Constructed, but it otherwise looks really silly which means that someone will inevitably try to use it in some way.
I fully expect the flavor text to reference Augmented Elekk.
Not so great imho. If you want refill your deck with spells, these must be super strong or you are loosing good draw. So...maybe this is a combo piece for a specific deck, but in the all other deck I think that can't be played
This just looks too slow to ever be relevant. That being said, it's a hilarious combo card and I expect to see some videos featuring stupid 9 card 20+ mana combos and for that reason alone I'm excited for this card.
Cardboard wizard and dog haver.
Great elekk 2.0
Lemushki - The one and only since the 2006 rebranding.
Ineresting card, can be bad if the opp plays a lot of cards and you get milled
The Exotic Mountseller buff we didn't need....
Does this work with Souls? Spells played from the deck?
Very useful for Jade decks.
Great wording
-=alfi=-
On the one hand, way too slow. But on the other, it can get you some value and it also copies the cards your opponent plays. But then you have to draw those.
This card is very hard to evaluate, but it's so cool and unique that I look forward to it seeing play in some form.
Amazing stats for the cost and the effect basically gives you extra resources
All hail the banshee queen.
Cool idea, but I don't think this card will see much play.
It's a great value generator, but Highlander might have an issue with this kind of card (which is very common currently).
Maybe wild value decks end up running this for more card generation?
Better than Test Subject. Not an OTK card but remembers everything which is nice.
This feels like a spell version of Body Wrapper, which is to say this isn't that good. Most decks aren't playing for adding cards to your deck to protect against fatigue and the fact that your opponent can dilute the quality of the spells you shuffle just makes Educated Elekk inconsistent for that fatigue plan. Maybe after Archivist Elysiana rotates out the Elekk will have a chance?
For glory, honor, and gold!
Cool idea the "remember" thing, but the application is lackluster, even with baseline stats for its cost.
Good card that I’m excited for. Hopefully it won’t be too weak/easy to play around.
The lorewalker chow effect associated copying the spells that also your opponent plays is insane. Will see play for sure
Xbox gamertag - Psymonjet
Actually only priest and demon hunter have silences, the neutral option is not played anymore.
So, that card is amazing in that meta, combo enabling and avoiding fatigue is really good for control decks.
By The Holy Light!
Maybe this card is played in a super control Priest or something, but I don't see it having too much value, except off a random evolve/devolve.
TREMBLE before.... the most legendary dragon that ever existed!
It enables some powerful combos if you manage to activate the deathrattle on the same turn is summoned.
Maybe a ttk?
Mill Druid, here I come! :D
Thanks to denial, I'm immortal.
This card will be a nice way to force someone to use a silence, because if they don't, they will regret it.
This is so good! After all, an elekk never forgets, right?!?!
Unless silenced!
Quick! Someone give me something clever to write here.
I like the creative approach the designers took with this card, but it just doesn't strike me as something you'd want to use in your deck because of the variance of spells it could "remember." It remembers your opponents' spells too, so if your opponent plays a bunch of random spells, Educated Elekk will shuffle it into your deck, which is something you wouldn't normally want. Can you imagine your opponent playing the coin then the Elekk shuffling it in your deck? That'll be a terrible draw, and the fact that it could dilute your deck is what sours me on Educated Elekk.
It could still see use in some control decks that thrive on value, though (Thief Priest would love this). But for most decks, this will probably be a hindrance and won't make the cut. Hard to say though.
One of my favourite cards of the set. I love a good random value generator, and this has the opportunity to steal spells from your opponent too! I don't know that this will find its way into serious decks - perhaps some fatigue strategies - but I'll certainly be running it in plenty of my decks.
Welcome to the site!
Fun card, I'll try to make this work in the first week of the expansion.. but I might need to run Robes of Protection with it, otherwise it'll soon be a sheep or frog.
Super strong card, I'm sure it'll be used to shuffle multiple buffs to the deck and create some sick OTKs.
