I really like Kripp's argument for Jaraxxus. This actually does bypass the problem of lost tempo with that card.
Just in general this could be cool to run in a few decks, but only Jaraxxus can be built around with it.
I tried having fun once.
It was awful.
Demons got many synergies this expansion maybe you can run a good demon deck.. I like that this card can be just played in any demon deck and not just aggro or control.
Isn’t this just a better Dark Possession? I mean I get that Dark Possession works with all of the self damage cards and life changing cards, but still
Who needs consistency when you could have fun?
We all knew this was coming. Kind of sad to see that this is literally the only big demon support Archwitch Willow gets this expansion.
I really like how the cost reduction effect stays active for as long as you want, which means you can use this card to cheat our big demons a turn early. I don't know if any deck exists out there that wants to cheat out big demons one turn earlier and doesn't already have the means to, but it is a nice little card all the same.
Carrion, my wayward grub.
The problem this card faces is that most demons are bad for the average value-based renolock, especially considering that they pollute the ressurection and voidcaller pools, and that aggressive decks usually prefer immediately strong cards over card generation effects.
This is good, but just doesn't have a home in wild.
This post is discussing the wild format.
Believe or not, Lord Jaraxxus wasn't always a meme. When Emperor Thaurissan was in Standard, Jaraxxus saw play as discounting him to 8 mana to fit in the HP helped lessened the tempo loss of just playing him. In a Soul Fragment Warlock, I could see this with Jaraxxus plus Spirit Jailer and Void Drinker for a Sense Demons package. The Demon discover pool for Warlock isn't that bad as well, as there are those Soul Fragment Demons I just mentioned. Demonic Studies could allow for Lord Jaraxxus to be the win condition of that Soul Fragment deck, especially with all the healing in the deck and universal efficient burst cards like Leeroy Jenkins don't exist in standard anymore.
For glory, honor, and gold!
Remember Dark Possession? The 1 mana Discover a Demon card with a downside?
This just wipes the floor with that card in every single way. Theoretically, it could be really useful with Jaraxxus since it would allow you to get a 6/6 out on the same turn as Jaraxxus himself. That might not make Jaraxxus good again, but it will certainly help him out quite a bit. It seems like one of the less good Study cards, but it might still find a home since the effect is still good.
Also RIP Call of the Void, never saw play, never will now.
As mentioned above (i havent watch the video myself) kripp thinks its good because it bypasses the Lord Jaraxxus tempo issue. That's fair. But then again, it doesn't change the fact that you'd maybe just die after playing jaraxxus anyway.
Discovering demons is always tricky, especially since the truly good demons are all dhunter cards. I personally think this is trash, but am open to be proven wrong.
Even tough i kinda like the card i also think this will almost see no play at all. I mean yes it makes the next one cheaper so i guess it is ok but not sure if it will see play
Challenge me ... when you're ready to duel a god!
Like kripp said, this is really good to get Lord Jaraxxus a turn earlier, and [Hearthstone Card (Lord Jarraxus) Not Found] back in the days was always really strong on turn 8, but that said it was quite a long time ago. So we will see if Lord Jaraxxus will be any good these days, or if it really fell of HARD.
Also Demonic Studies can dicover a lot of demons. And because of the discover nerfs some time ago, it means that both class/neutral cards are as likely to show up. And neutral has some REALLY bad demons like Desk Imp (bad with the discount), Magtheridon (bad.), Supreme Abyssal (no silence = bad card) and Sathrovarr (only good in combo decks). Now that i'm looking at it, i hardly see any GOOD demons in the standard pool. This card is really hard to use.
RNG is only fun as long as there is a 50/50 chance of getting something really good or trash level of bad. If RNG always results in something good, then it's not fun.
No complains for all the studies, this can generate good value within the demon pool right now.
Interesting arguments about discounting Lord J. It actually might work. But will it be competitive enough in standard?
“If you have an apple and I have an apple and we exchange these apples then you and I will still each have one apple. But if you have an idea and I have an idea and we exchange these ideas, then each of us will have two ideas.” ― George Bernard Shaw

Not sure this one is quite as good as the other Studies, but it should see some play I think. Demons are less predictable in terms of value.
"Be excellent to each other." -Bill and Ted
Anything cheap that makes Lord J work gets a 5/5 from me, no questions asked.
a cheap, flexible spell that discounts warlocks favorite minion type.
Aside from it's flexibility it has a nice synergy with Arcwitch Willow, allowing you to discover a high cost minion that she can summon with her effect.
It might be good enough to run in constructed, it doesn't do anything on the board but it also doesn't take away from your hand size which handlock really strives for.
with AoO being very Demon heavy and a handful of Demons from this set Warlock could have roughly 40 choices to discover with this card.
Good interaction with Jaraxus, but probably this is the "worst Study". Anyway it's a discount with free extra value. It's ok at least
Demon pool very polarizing, the discount to Jaraxxus, in my opinion, won't be enough to change it. Sure, it will be less of a tempo loss, but it's equiping a 3/8 weapon and summoning a 6/6 for 10 mana. These days, that seems way too little in terms of power, especially when considering how Lord Jaraxxus cripples your health pool.
Rating cards on coolness factor rather than predicting power because I like screwing up rating averages (and because I suck at predicting real power levels, but we'll ignore that LUL)
Wins per class (2/6/22): DH-197; Druid-996; Hunter-91«60; Mage-1056; Paladin-1126; Priest-746; Rogue-961; Shaman-1095; Warlock-871; Warrior-906
I like the golden craft. :D
Thanks to denial, I'm immortal.
Fun with malganys in wild
Lemushki - The one and only since the 2006 rebranding.
Cool card. Good it's not dual class
Could of been decent if it was for DH too.
I think all of the studies cards were pretty strong.
That one was clearly just an afterthought to replace what they added removed from the classic set, long after ..
On the other hand, this Demonic Studies - more often referred as Demonology - is quite flexible!
Struggle with Heroic Galakrond's Awakening? I got your back :
On the one hand, discover is better than random. On the other, Discover means you can't get demon hunter demons.Which are some of the better ones. I don't think this one is going to see play.
Demon decks. 0-cost cross fingers.
Free card basically as the cost of it is reduced from the demon
All hail the banshee queen.
Another study, another disappointing one. Won't see play.
Probably one of the weaker studies cards in the set.
Just like the other studies, this enables combos and tempo plays never seen before, but demons just aren't super strong compared to other tribes/effects.
I doubt this will see much play.
Really powerful card.
Good with the bigger demons, fantastic with Jarraxus. But with pack filler 0 manademon just released and some other poor ones it might not cut it overall.
Used to love discovery mechanic, but I'm kinda fed up with it to be honest. Seems to stiffle creativity too much, just thrown "discovery this or that" and you're done. Such a shame.
Some day soon, for shits and giggles, I'll need to build a deck with this, Dark Possession, and Call of the Void, and just rollllll. This one seems to be the obvious best of the three, though kudos to that niche deck that wants to damage its own minions to pick up a demon - [Hearthstone Card (Gurubashi Berzerker) Not Found] Warlock incoming!
It is actually quite interesting that this is the third 1-Cost 'random Demon' card for Warlock. Obviously two of them Discover making them significantly better, but it's still a strange little trend. I wonder if they'll keep escalating in power or if we'll start seeing worse versions of cards popping up in Standard to curate a meta.
Welcome to the site!
Like.. okey maybe
-=alfi=-
Using the 2 studies in a row makes demons cost 2 mana less. It will enable some big demons tempo swing
The initial excitement of 8 mana Lord J on turn 10 is great! But then you think about having to play this the turn prior and waiting, and you want to play it late game so you have 10 mana for the 8 mana Lord J and hero power... Still potential to be good in a Demon based deck, but overall just okay.
Quick! Someone give me something clever to write here.
Worst studies card, worst than priest one.
By The Holy Light!
Now does this automatically get included in any warlock deck?
TREMBLE before.... the most legendary dragon that ever existed!
Much like beat synergy, I love warlock demon synergy, and reducing many of them by even 1 can make a big difference.

A puzzle box? What does it say? ... Yogi-Saffron something... sure, let's open it, what is the worst that could happen?
Lord Jaraxxus' new best friend!
I was hoping that with the new expansion that this would be more viable in Zoo Lock... sad panda.
