Competition Theme: Honourable Mentions
We're all about honour this week - or I am, anyway, and you're all going to have to deal with it being spelt that way.
- You must create a card which utilises the new Honorable Kill mechanic
- Whether by using the Keyword itself or interacting with cards that have it, we just want you to uphold your honour!
Wailor has asked that we have a clean and honest game this week, so make sure your cards are upholding their honour!
As always, I can be reached through Discord or here on the site via PM if you have any issues to report.

Welcome to the site!
First couple ideas.
Wording may look a little bit weird at first, but if the 1 damage AoE were part of the Honorable Kill effect, then it would keep looping itself for each kill ala Spammy Arcanist.
Therazane is an Elemental Lord, like Al'Akir the Windlord, Ragnaros the Firelord, and Neptulon. Doesn't really jive with the Freeze Shaman archetype FiAV has going on, to be honest, but it could definitely find a home in a Control Shaman build. The Sandstone Elemental is an example of what the Honorable Kill would produce, like if the Shaman killed a Double Agent or some other 3/3.
Fierce Cub is the card I intent to go with. I think it's simple, yet has a unique effect. But I would like to share my other idea just to see what people think.
I'm back, for the time being at least.
@Demonxz95 won’t be happy, but…
Make The Cow King an alternate Warrior skin plz
Feedback:
That said, it's a bit too weak right now. I'd either give it Rush or reduce the cost to 3 Mana.
I will definitely be trying to find something else to use. But here's some feedback.
Sunfire being almost a better Fireball for Druid seems off to me. True, this version can't target face which is actually sort of a big deal, but I'd probably still lower the damage to 5. Makes more sense for Druid since they're not supposed to be as good at single-target damage as Mage is.
Frostwolf Blademaster is kinda cool. I like the fact that it can potentially clear a board of minions with exactly 4 Health.
Fierce Cub is a really nice design that's simple but not boring. I quite like this card.
Magic Instructor Charon is a pretty cool card that works nicely with Magister Dawngrasp.
Vendetta is a fine card, though as pointed out by Wailor, its name is already used so you should change it if you choose to go with it.
Commander Karl Philips is pretty cool, so I'd go with that. More Karl lore.
"why would I not be happy abou…. oh, I see why."
And yeah, you're right. I'm not happy about it. XD
We may have been told about an old set-exclusive keyword making a return as an evergreen mechanic, but we don't know what that mechanic is. And it sure as hell isn't going to be Overkill, I can tell you that much.
The juxtaposition between the Overkill and Honorable Kill effect is cute, but the Honorable Kill effect is a little bit weird since it can save itself from dying.
Fight over the Flag!
The opponent is incentivized to try to Honorably Kill this in order to get a copy on their side too, thus also drawing a card. This turns the card into a constant back and forth, both players wanting to be the lasts to capture Honorably Kill it.
I'll boop you
I've got a new idea, although I need a little bit of help with it.
EDIT: Well I got that situated.
Damn cloudflare login problems... I'm back.
Art is meh, but can't find a better one. Maybe I need to change it to archer or something.
If your opponent plays this and you kill it, you are effectively giving them a card in the hope you will get one later. Getting a card now is obviously better and your opponent might just leave the flag alive, so why bother killing it at all?
A passive effect would fit your capture mechanic far better. You'll want to kill it so your opponent loses the buff and if you kill it honorably, you will capture it and immediately profit from it.
Of course, the text would likely get crowded. Maybe "Honorable Death:" could fix that, but I'm not sure how that would be received? Hope this helps and good luck!
I'll give the others feedback later.
For the cost-reduction I'd say 4 Mana. It punishes using many small minions in your deck and at 5 Attack, the effect is quite difficult to pull off.
Come to think of it, Honorable Kill cards could really inspire some more use of Animated Broomstick in decks.
Changing tactics:
Kind of like Headmaster Kel'Thuzad, but for Honorable Kill. "Nothing will inspire you more to switch sides than a Fireball to the face." IIRC the Spirit of Redemption is the caretaker of Alterac Valley's dead PvP players, watching over them while they wait to respawn.
Feedback:
R - Should be "Slingshot Goblin", just the one O. The text seems okay, being essentially Cobra Shot with a condition (and a body), although it does buck up against Knight-Captain in terms of general function.
Demonxz95 - I think a reduction of 4 is fine. A sizable payoff for what can be an uncommon condition to activate.
BasilAnguis - I agree with AeroJulwin in-that The Flag should have some kind of aura effect to really encourage your opponent to target it. Otherwise, they might just leave it alone and deny you the "game within a game" fun.
DestroyerR - Ignoring the Keyword-soup, I think it's okay, but quite boring. It's "just stats", and people don't care for that unless something good is coming along with it (or you're Saidan the Scarlet, compensating with sheer numbers).
grumpymonk - Ignoring the name problem, I think the Rogue spell is more interesting than Karl. Karl has some math involved that'll turn some people away, having to line everything up just right for the HK. He's also a terrible drop onto an empty board, which is unfortunate. The spell has the cool "should I Combo or not" factor that adds to the decision-making.
AeroJulwin - I assume the Cub returns to your hand even if it dies? It wouldn't be good otherwise, but that's also not entirely intuitive: dead things are dead, you shouldn't get them back (unless you're a filthy Priest). I like Charon because "Fire Control Mage" sounds cool to me. Or maybe "Fire Fighter Mage"? :P
Wailor - I've been told that the Druid is supposed to have a problem clearing minions with spells, so Sunfire is presumably an issue. The Blademaster is a fine card, though, so I'd go with that one. Could even chain-kill a bunch of 4-Health minions.
New idea:
EDIT: Fixed according to @AeroJulwin’s feedback
Make The Cow King an alternate Warrior skin plz
Right now it would be a guaranteed 5 minion damage (+ 5 minion/face damage if you got the HK on the previous turn) + a 5/1 Charge.
Thanks for all the feedback everyone! I'm just not sure which idea to submit now... Charon is also being well-received, but I still like how clean and simple Fierce Cub is.
My idea with the Cub was that it gets a bit too reckless, but as long as it manages to get a clean kill, it can return to the safety of the pack (It makes sense in my head and many cards are a bit far-fetched). It also fits the expansion better. But I understand if others disagree with that first point and apparently there's a lot of love for HP Mage. I'm just a bit scared most voters will find Charon too complex to do well in the comp.
Good luck to the other finalists :)
Congrats to BloodMefist, looks like we got tied!
That's the third out of my four wins that is a card for a competition about new keywords (Spellburst, Frenzy, Honorable Kill) and the fourth was technically a new mechanic as well (mounts) :D
I notice I am confused. Something I believe isn't true. How do I know what I think I know?
