Second Dinner's Marvel Game Is Getting Announced Tomorrow

Heads Up! We've got news regarding Second Dinner, the company founded by Ben Brode and staffed with tons of former Hearthstone developers, and their first game--which is going to be announced tomorrow.

Last April, Second Dinner promised that their game would be announced in "12-ish" months. We knew then that it would be a Marvel game, after this previous announcement on the company's website.

We’re partnering with Marvel on our first game. I know what you’re thinking: “WHAAAT?!!? You get to make a game with Hellcow the vampiric cow and Throg, the Mighty Frog of Thunder??”

Yes. Yes, we do. Also, Spider-Man and the Avengers and the X-Men. We’re working on the prototype already, and we think it might just be the most fun thing ever in the history of fun.

Stay tuned for more news on our various doings and shenanigans. Not like right away, but there will be more at some point. We promise!

Yours Truly,
Second Dinner

Yesterday, Brode posted this to his Twitter acount:

Rare to get the whole crew together but this time it’s for a special occasion…. gonna be a big week!

So, it appeared to interested parties that something big was about to happen.

Today, we got this from Marvel's official Twitter account:

New Game Announcement!

Tune in tomorrow at 10 AM PST.

Included in Marvel's post is a brief teaser that doesn't appear to give much information about what the game will be, other than that it appears to include a heckuva lot of Marvel characters.

  • Grats to Ben and his team.
No idea what it's going to be, was hoping something very nice and tempting. But (my opinion only) I have never been and never will be a fan of the whole Marvel stuff. Guess I am too old haha

But good luck Ben and friends

  • I'm hoping it's a card game but not too keen on another hero collector like the Mercs mode. Ofc most of these devs and Brode left Blizzard long before Mercs was even thought of so I'm leaning more towards maybe a card game similar to LoR where you have the Marvel heroes and they have their own ability cards.

  • will it have strong empowered bold and brave characters to push the MESSAGE aka Narative i can't wait to get a unhealthy dose of that POOP in my video games!

  • I'm cheering for Ben and the crew at Second Dinner!

  • Love Ben, hope the game is really good

  • Marvel's been on the decline lately. The MCU popularity took a hit with the latest somewhat underwhelming films, and people in general got a bit fed up with the whole superhero stuff. I fear this game, even if it is well designed, may be just too late. There are some big competitors for them to challenge, like MTg, Hearthstone and Legends of Runeterra.

    • Have you seen the box office numbers for the last Spiderman and Dr Strange???

People have predicted superherofatigue for 10 years now and Spiderman still made almost 2 billion this winter

Who even said that it's going to be a cardgame?

Well almost all the devs at Second Diner are ex Hearthstone devs. Course they could make something new, but it feels unlikely.

        • Guess you were right, but the game really stands out from all of the other cardgames and will surely find a niche for casual card players. 3 Minute matches and not having any turns is incredible unique for that genre.
