Grandmasters Shielded Conquest Format

New for season 2, the Hearthstone Grandmasters has moved away from the Specialist format and has introduced a new version of the beloved conquest. Here's how it works!

  • Matches are Best of 3. (Old version it was Bo5)
  • Players bring 4 decks.
  • Before each match starts, each player chooses a deck to shield. This deck cannot be banned.
  • After the shielded deck is chosen, each player bans a deck of their opponent.
  • Winning a game with your deck means it cannot be played again in that match.
  • The player that loses a game can choose to keep their current deck or switch to a different one.
  • Players are told what classes their opponent has remaining but not which one that has been selected.

You can read more about why the format changed in Blizzard's post on it. Our own mrgn0me did an analysis on the format and how players may choose to build their lineups.

  • I wish you would have included possible playoff and releagation scenarios. Maybe next season?

    • Playoffs would have so many scenarios that I would've gone crazy trying to list them. Here are the somewhat-correct relegation scenarios though:

      Americas:

      • StrifeCro needs to win both of his matches in order to have a chance of not getting eliminated. In addition, either ETC or Firebat needs to lose both of their matches to get eliminated instead. (StrifeCro will play against Firebat this weekend, high stakes).
      • Rase will at least need to beat Zalae and even that might not be enough (I'm too lazy to do that math). Winning both matches while Zalae loses both of his would be enough.

      APAC:

      • BloodTrail was already destined for relegation even before today's matches.
      • Pathra needs to win both of her matches while blitzchung loses both of his. I do not understand the tiebreaker rules well enough to say for sure but she might already be mathematically relegated.

      Europe:

      • Viper needs wins. One would get him into a mathematical mess I do not want to think about, two would be close to saving him. Orange and Swidz are other players in danger. Viper is currently losing to Orange as I write this.
      • The European winner of Season 1, Feno, needs to win at least one match, possibly both (as I said, not sure about tiebreaker rules). Bozzzton needs one win to guarantee safety while Seiko needs to either match Feno's record or he might even afford to lose one more depending how tiebreakers work. Feno will meet Bozzzton on Sunday.
      • Tie breakers go as follows:

TB 1: If you won both your matches against a person you're tied with, you're above him

TB 2: If you're 1-1, you sum all the points of the players you beat and whoever has the greater sum is placed above.

      • Thanks a lot.. Would be just an interesting feature for the future.

I second that, would be cool!

  • Five out of the eight players in the Americas will have Octosari in one of their decks. No player outside the Americas brought that card.

    • Yeah it's not good

  • I have enjoyed season 2 a LOT more than season 1. There is still a fair few warrior mirrors that go on a bit, but they are no longer the worst match up to watch. That belongs to combo priest mirrors!
